Gotta newbie question:

What's the best way to lure a chicken? Got an americuana today, and she's the only one in the coop that can clear the 4 ft chicken wire. Almost had her a couple times, but the hedgerows made it difficult. And I've never seen a chicken run as fast as her! I want to get her back, before she becomes somethings free dinner.

Food! But she has to recognize that it's food.

Mealworms are usually a winner. (Best price I've found for dried is at Lowes in their bird feed department.) My birds love raw hamburger as well (but I don't feed raw if it's from the supermarket unless it is grass fed from a source I trust....cooked otherwise).

If it's mealworms, shake the container every time you go out to give them some...or make some kind of noise that lets them know the good stuff is there. It will train them to come running.

For a new bird...it will be harder. Hopefully she knows where the home roost is and will come back before dark.

Or...just for tonight, if you can stay near enough to her until she roosts for the night on something you should be able to nab her easily. They can't see well at night and usually stop running around. I wouldn't leave her alone in the dark (due to predators). Just lay low until she roosts or stops. They'll usually try to find something to get up on if they can.

That's the issue..... I haven't had eyes on her since dusk. And she's new. Today new. 20 minutes before she escaped new.

I know this is late, so hope you got her back last night.

When one of mine goes over /under the fence, I can lure them back with food. I make a big deal feeding the flock (while making my chicken call), so the escapee gets jealous & runs back home to get her fair share of treats.

I am in search of a good rooster for my 8 hens. I remember tons of positive things said of Cogburn and his offspring, can anyone please direct me to Cogburns owner, and also direct me to any roosters for sale, they must not be Devils. I would like to have one that is old enough to know his duties so he can focus on integrating and getting comfortable by winter.
Thanks in advance for any help!

I live in Jennings County Indiana and make dream catchers. I could make a dream catcher for any one from 10-20$ depending what all get on it. I would love if you could send me feather that you love from you birds. I need fluff feathers saddle feather tail and or wing feathers. Rooster i would like the hackles also. I would prefer the neighboring counties but may be able to work something out. And if you just want to donate feathers i will gladly take them. Thanks!!
