INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Took some quick pics to share & show how the "babies" are growing.
My DD's 1st silkie just started laying. (Hatched March 3rd, so 6 mo old now)

Our "Mini Moose" (son of Moose) hatched March 31st. It looks like he may grow bigger than his daddy. We put his bigger bro in the freezer. He looked better but had some strange gold brown on his shoulder/wings. That guy also disliked being picked up. I really need my roos to be docile around around people.

The splash silkie below hatched April 15th & looks like a female.

Our Spitzhauben also hatched April 15th. I'm debating rehoming her, but DS has been holding her a lot.

Oopsie went broody & hatched more chicks. We rehomed all but one. (Didn't want her to go through depression.) The kids named the chick "Penguin." She's a spoiled little thing & the whole flock watches over her.

DS has become quite the chicken-lover. He may even surpass DD someday. Here's his fav gal: Chizzy. She's still his "special sussex" even after the comb injury. (caused by a young cock)

So I have finally integrated my four ~9week old chicks in with my ~6 month old pullets. They do alright with one another during the day, but the little chicks still haven't figured out going into the coop at night. So these past few nights I pick them up and put them in the coop. They immediately try to rush out. So I shut the door to the coop.

Should I try keeping them in the coop during the day for a day or two so they know this is where they are supposed to sleep? I kind of figured they would just follow the pullets in at the end of the night, but they don't.

How I mixed my young chickens from the brooder into the flock, I would place them inside the coop with the rest of the flock when it's dark outside and let them all out together the next morning. My youngies would go back inside the coop right as the sun started to set. You could also try putting a light inside the coop, they'll go where light is.

Wow. What a hunk a roo! My buff Orpington that I'm thinking could be a he looks very similar to yours. I am going to just be patient though. I've had mixed reviews when I posted pictures. The other six First Ladies are squatting and at least four are laying. The buff Orpingtons are running on their own schedule.
Since those photos were taken Mr Babe has grown! And he's crowing! I'll take some more photos soon and post.

I'm buying all these Muscovy's Friday for $6 each!!! I'm picking out the keepers and selling the rest at an animal swap in Knox on the 10th! Anyone going? Would love to meet fellow BYC's!

We're getting ducks, eventually. It's in our "five year plan." I hope that's NEXT year! We have picked a place for a pond, and have started to acquire the pond plants, planting them in our swales to keep them with moist feet. Next year we're planning to get rabbits, too. Gosh, getting tired thinking about caring for rabbits, ducks AND chickens. o_Oo_Oo_O

I have learned that people who only text are not serious people. As soon as I text back saying to call me because I want to speak to them live, the "text only" ones disappear and the serious people willingly call. That's my screening process. The ones that make it through that all turn out to be kind, friendly people. They all say they don't blame me for wanting to speak live with CL strangers first, and they would do the same thing.

I bet your No Show would never have called you live. They sound like that type. You would have been able to rule them out pretty easily.

I am a text only CL person. I had an ad up and someone called, they were extremely inappropriate and left me afraid for several days. I've also called to realize the gentleman was taking care of business in the background. No thanks.

If I'm a seller, I text only or email initially. If I'm a buyer, I still prefer to text but if there is absolutely no other option and I'm set on the item I will call on their request.
