INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

In process of repotting all my pepper plants. Peat pots were almost root bound, so I used the generic 22oz plastic solo cups. I repurpose them after a family gathering or other event. Drill a couple holes in the bottom for drainage. We mostly plant the same varieties yearly so I can get a few years out of them. I looked at buying 4" pots, geez! Sticking with the used solo cups. Next year we aren't starting as early, I'm out of room lol!

Getting a regular supply of chicken eggs now already freezing some. Waiting on the Guinea and Muscovy to start laying. Set 3 goose eggs tonight to test fertility. I used a 4th one for french toast to check fertility and it was. I want to be sure we have a pair of geese with each flock in the mobile coops to prevent hawk attacks.

I imagined what your CL ad would be like 'looking for large, dark, roo, ideally, Barnevelder...' That made me chuckle. :lau

When I began raising chickens, among the first rookie mistakes I made was giving 3-day old chicks live mealworm treats. One of them choked, and I swung it upside down by it's feet to dislodge the worm from it's mouth. Horrified, I'd caused some sort of trauma to the chick, I looked on Google to see what I should've done. This was my Google search "What to do for Choking Chick". Again--I WAS HORRIFIED at the results my search came back with.

I think that the use of the work "chick" is VERY LIKELY to get you into trouble...

:lau

When I 1st started out with chickens I did a google search on Black Sex Linked chicks.
You can just imagine my horror when some of those images popped up! It was an innocent mistake which DH still teases me about it today.
:gig:lau:eek: ROFL y'all too funny!

DH left to Nevada tonight. His USAF buddy has a corvette he promised him. Bonds are tight between those that served. There is a lot more history there I'm not going to share.
I want to thank every woman, man, for your service protecting our country. Ron Verzon rest in peace sweetheart. So many gone not forgotten. Thank you Paul to complete Ron's wishes.

To misquote a song, oh solo cup I lift you up it's time to plant it's time to Plant... I think I like those lyrics better, back aches are easier to deal with in the long run...

***Public Service Announcement***

ALWAYS wear gloves when administering Blu-Kote. As much as you think you can, you cannot possibly open the bottle without getting a little on your hands! Or in my case over 40% of them.

Nail polish remover saved my bacon. My fingers still look like I'm not getting enough oxygen, but at least it doesn't look like I killed a village of smurfs with my bare hands.

:lau I'm laughing with you there!

These guys are my pet chickens and will stay til old age takes them. Beefy is the Dark Cornish rooster, someone asked a while back how they look. I adore this guy, He is huge, and a big lap baby! Hard feathered breed so yes, he really is that big! Very good to his hens, sits by the nestbox and chats. Loudly growls a warning if things aren't safe. Crows when it is. Feeds his ladies instead of him.. Doesn't seem to be fertile anymore. These are all much older birds.
Blue 2nd pic is a Blue Copper Maran, no longer lays a dark egg. 3rd is Buffy the buff orp and she's with Mabel the barred rock. Foghorn my Leghorn roo is a favorite too, (not pictured) I can't allow those boys out together or they would fight.
Please forgive all the mess and clutter we've got a dozen projects going and a ton of mud everywhere.

Yes I give these 4 extra treats daily. Table scraps or whatever I have so they are pretty spoiled :love
