INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Guess who adopted the new chicks?

NO. Not the dog (although he really likes the "treats" they make and is always watching over them).

It's our little, broody OEG.
It was a little crazy at 1st b/c the chicks loved to peck at her big, shiny eyes. They were practically attacking her!

The heating pad is in place for the overflow chicks. I'm going to keep them inside for a while, though.

Also.... Cookie is going broody! Looks like I'll have my master broody for all the school chicks in 2 weeks!
I just adore your OEG! is she bantam?
thanks for the pic., reminded me of this song...
Adored George Jones, thank you so much sharing this video.

I've got the Bresse eggs (chicken) locked down, out of 18, 2 were duds 1 quitter. Pretty impressed with this seller. I will let them know and will give them a total hatch count. Shipped eggs you are lucky to get 50% hatch. These 15 eggs are viable active embryos after candling. Hatch date is the 20th.

Amazing hatch rate!

3 Bresse already hatched, several more pips :yasuper excited! I hate to see my week old babies going out to the big brooder. I'll still see them several times a day but really enjoy cuddle time in the evenings.
I've got a dozen Lavender Ameruacana eggs, and setting one more round of my EEs. I'll band the AM chicks so I can tell them apart. Most of my EEs hatch blue or lavender so its a bit hard to tell them apart. The next hatch of EE I plan to put with a copper Maran roo so we can have olive eggs again.

Thanks. Yes. She's a silver old English Game bantam. The large Orpington chicks will soon be larger than the broody.

Wow full house there!! I kept OEG both bantam and standard for a few years. Fantastic moms! I also had Modern game bantams. Love those breeds. I may keep them again at some point, they are so sweet and personable, even the roosters are full of personality.

Have our 1st trellis up in the garden & this row is permanent. Will be grapevines, blackberry, blueberry and strawberry plants. I have a few Asparagus already but plan to have a full row. All my tomato and pepper starts are huge! Next year I'll wait til the end of March for starting seeds. I have cherry tomatoes and sugar snap peas ready to harvest, soon to be okra too all grown indoors.

It was a beautiful day today. Since it was the holiday and I was "off duty", I decided to go out and play with my new chicks I got on Friday.

Easter Eggers:

Cuckoo Marans and Light Brahma:

(I bought 2 of each of those, but sadly one Marans and one Brahma didn't survive the first night. :()

The Swedish Flower Hens and the Cochins came from a breeder I found on CL. She was way out in Farmland, about a 1 1/4 hour drive from me. I also bought 4 older SFH from her.

Then since I was out that far, I took the opportunity to stop at the Muncie Rural King, where I got the other chicks.

:loveAdorable babies!

Our poultry updates:
Chicken: Bresse hatch went awesome! I left one egg in my incubator I'm not fully convinced is a dud. Out of 18, 2 clears, 2 quitters unless #2 does hatch. Very lively and social babies as of now, 14! 1 round of EEs left and one Ameruacana hatch (from a breeder). That's going to wrap up chicken hatches this year... maybe Maran in the fall if laying well lol  shhhh...
Guineas: Still here, after several months of being locked up they have FINALLY realized they have to coop at night. I might hatch keets am sure getting a lot of eggs. Really want them to stay if they continue cooping up. Their coop is mobile so I may move them with the goats inside electric netting.
Geese: Infertile. Did 3 weeks of test hatches and nothing. Broke 3 fresh ones today for french toast, nope not fertile. We have a new flock coming, goslings from Meyer hatchery. 2 of my younger geese are likely going to my vets house. Big Boy is 6, Gee is 7 and they are pets so they are staying here to watch over the goslings as they get older.
Muscovy: Laying like crazy and 1 may be broody already!
