The weather has been soo nice these past few days! My puppy Stella got to play outside for the first time yesterday and also took my son to the park 2 days in a row!

Day 11 on the Bresse hatching eggs. I took time to candle them before my Friday hatch of more Maran and EEs. Out of 18 shipped eggs, (bought 16) I have 16 wiggly developing embryos!!! Out of all these years hatching shipped eggs this is only the 2nd time I've been that lucky! I emailed the seller & she is equally excited.

ETA: Just did my evening egg collecting. Found Physco the oldest Muscovy hen pancaked in Beefy's coop on the nestbox! She knows them all, they grew up together. She has 2 of her eggs (missed the 1st one probably buried) and 2 of Beefy's hens eggs. I will be taking all the chicken eggs tonight after dark. She's hatched as many as 17 ducklings in the past.

I've been researching egg storage for winter and "waterglassing" keeps popping up. This was the shortest one from a channel I follow. I found this video and would love to hear thoughts about it.

Watch the next video too for the results after 5 months, which in my opinion isn't long enough for testing the method.

Total hatch: 5 Copper Maran, 3 EE's will post pics soon. One of the older CM chicks is a lap girl! I'll have a total of 10, hope to keep 2 roosters depending on how many hens I have. I'd forgot how social the Maran are, now that I have some again looking forward to having more lap chickens.
DH made it home early Saturday morning. The car is very nice I'll share pics of it too.

Hardening plants off this week, starting with the grapevines and blackberry bushes. I've got some plants that are huge already. Also about 50 strawberry crowns. Looks like our last frost is tonight!

My favorite late night snack awesome eggs and toast. Yes that beautiful orange yolk is from Beefy's flock. I was so busy today I realized I better eat something.

Guess who adopted the new chicks?

NO. Not the dog (although he really likes the "treats" they make and is always watching over them).

It's our little, broody OEG.
It was a little crazy at 1st b/c the chicks loved to peck at her big, shiny eyes. They were practically attacking her!

The heating pad is in place for the overflow chicks. I'm going to keep them inside for a while, though.

Also.... Cookie is going broody! Looks like I'll have my master broody for all the school chicks in 2 weeks!
