Looking out and it's snowing here. As usual the cows are out in it silly things. Far right center is Hershey the Angus mix. The rest are in the south pasture eating a maple that fell last week

We got about 3" today. The forecast said 3-6", so it could have been worse.

Have to say the American Bresse lay very well! Its a light tan egg, almost leghorn sized. They are still pullet age 5 1/2 months so the eggs should get larger. I'm getting about 5 eggs a week per hen. Our cockerel is a big fella! After watching the roosters interacting with the hens I've picked the best fella and kept a backup. I find it surprising the Maran hens, EE/OE's have stopped laying and the barred Rocks also. These are all this years hatches.

The girls have decided they're staying inside today. I don't blame them. This was yesterday afternoon, but they're looking much the same now. Lots of scratching through the shavings and pretending they don't see the white plague.

That's a great idea. My daughter wants a new puppy and I don't want to housetrain it.
And I just love black dogs especially poodles, they are so smart. I have a Yorkie-poo which I love because she is so smart and adventurous too. Keeps me entertained.
Jordan seems to be loving his new bed...Too cute!

We got 3" of snow & the windchill was already below zero..... but look who decided October was a good time to go broody!

These chicks are 2+ wks old. I brought the serama mama & her 2 chicks into the basement for a while.

Yep, we're set to be below 0 air temp tonight, so I have a couple naked hens in the basement. They decided October was a good time to lose 90% of their feathers.

Really worrying about my OEGBs right now... They're just so teeny-tiny, I'm not sure how well they'll handle this cold. We might end up with chickens all over the house again, depending on how they look as the night goes on...

OEGB do ok as long as they are draft free. I had them a few years and they were pretty cold hardy. I don't think the rooster ever had frostbite issues with his comb either.

Well, we have new additions tonight! Very excited to have them! Baby heifer is in our dog run for the night, and will be wormed and shots tomorrow. I bought her and her Mother from our cow neighbor Jack. Mom will come later this week. She is 2 months old, Mom is 3 years old. Although I know our neighbor very well, I still quarantine. I will introduce her Mom to our bull in 2 months. I have to move my Nubian to another pasture to open the pasture they are moving into. Cow/calf pair will move to the hard fence pasture with hot wire to train the calf to it. Have to pick names!

Here is the mom, I took a picture of her last summer. She was on his dry lot which is a mud pit when it rains. He is switching over to Angus only so he is selling off any other breeds he has.
