INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Hi I’m new here and I am buying a piece of land this spring I have some experience with chickens and wanted to get into it again.
I was going to post on here to see if anyone had any good brood stock for Cornish crosses so I can just breed my own meat birds.
It seems easier as I have an incubator and know how to use it.
I live near the Illinois border just north of Terre Haute so if anyone in my area has some good Cornish game birds and/or some good white Rocks in my area for my project please get in touch.
It will be after may.

That being said are you truly settled on that breed for meat birds? Harvesting in the winter in this area isn't very pleasant. The people that I know that raise them just buy a hatched flock in the spring and then harvest and buy nothing all winter. I personally don't care for the breed. I think they're cruel freaks of nature. I currently don't raise meat birds but I was planning to raise jersey giants for that purpose once I have time to build a second coop. Up to you but RN it's 0 degrees out with a wind chill of -25. Not the kind of weather I'd personally like to harvest in. Water struggles to stay hot and the meat freezes before rigor even sets in. If you have a heated place to do the job more power to you but I just have the backyard.

HOOSIERS! UNITE!! There are actually 2 older threads for Indiana. Lets get together and make this one active for all of our benefit! After a few confusing months of trying to contact someone to get on Indiana's thread, I've since found out The OP's just aren't active anymore.

This is for those of us that want a place to share local info, from breeders to processors. Food mills, veterinarians that will treat a chicken if necessary. Fun stuff like poultry shows, and just let off steam

if we need to! I started keeping fowl after being away from it almost 30 years. Some of this information was pretty hard to find where I am at, BYC has helped a lot.
Hi, I'm n here. I am in New Haven IN. Could someone please direct me where I can find the laws for chickens? I called Animal Care and Control and she thinks it's the same laws for Fort Wayne IN but I hear from someone's mouth that is not true. I am just looking for something in writing that gives me information. Thank you so much for taking time out of your day to help me.

You can check your city's website or you can just call them and hopefully get to someone that can answer your question. I tried looking myself and Google AI said you can keep 6 but there are rules regarding the structure. Even then I wouldn't rely on that. Calling the city is the best bet. It's always tragic to go thru the investment and then to get a nasty note from the city telling you they gotta go.

Thank you so very much. I am going to do just that tomorrow. I have so many people that say yes but then they say when they voted for the Casino I guess that's when you could no longer keep chickens or something like that. I am extremely new to this. Have friends guiding me and been reading books but like you said, I don't want to get it all then boom.....here comes that note. lol Maybe I can put a collar on them, paint their toes and tell them they are my pets. LoL Sorry I have a sense of humor. Hope that does not offend anyone.
