INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Goes to show what the small cameras are capable of now. These are some great pictures.
Was out messing around the yard today and decided to take some pics of the big girls. They were taken with a cell phone so excuse the poor quality.

We got our garden started today! I had the prettiest little gardeners helping, too!

Lots of hard work later, here's what we've got:

Tomatoes along the right side, cucumbers at the back left, and bell peppers in the center. Gonna get some seeds planted along the other edge tomorrow.
Awesome! I really want to at least get jalapeno peppers, squash and tomato in. Oh meant to add, I just love your helpers, is that a specked sussex? They are beautiful birds!

2nd picture reminds me of one of our roos. I like your garden shots, everything in the spring is always small.

We are not having a big veggie garden this year, it is our first year for chickens! Our harvest will begin this August, can't wait for the eggs.

I set up there once a couple of years ago; went Friday night and stayed over.  You just go find an open spot.  I probably won't set up there again but might go to shop sometime.  The spots are measured and they check to see that you don't get a foot out of your allotted space; that was okay, though.  What I found (which may not be true every time) was that people are really looking for bargains, so it isn't a place to take your quality birds.  If I priced a full-grown chicken at $5, people tended to shake their heads and move on.  I spent more on gas and the $20 set-up fee than I took in.

I prefer the Knox and Milton KY (just across the river from Madison) swaps.  They are smaller, but I have always done well at them, usually selling several before I even get them all out of the truck.  Folks have even helped me unload just so they could see them first.  Knox is pretty far for me, but I really enjoy it--hope to go in June.  My friend who went with me last year took in about $500, and we only stayed about 5 hours.

The Milton swap will be May  11-12 and Labor Day weekend; Knox is the 2nd Sunday of the month April, May, June, September, and October.

I am in Switzerland County so I was so happy to see this post. Now I have to go & check it out. Thanks!

That is my favorite chick, I don't care what it is ,it will sit with me and talk and sing to me. I love it.

My fave chick is about the same age & identical. We're waiting to see if it crows. Ours were supposed to be all pullets. I'll just get more pullets if we do have more than 1 roo in the flock cause it jumps up to my shoulder, nuzzles into my neck & does this cute coo kind of sound.

She was a TSC banty, but believe she is an OEGB. As fair as color, I think she is a reyle. Her chest has red feathers to it. She is very skittish and won't let me get a good picture of her.

Great pictures! I always love the cuddling pictures.
Doing great. Baby and all. I have some more eggs in incubator then my uncle gave me a dozen banty eggs today. Not sure what kind of banties they are tho. They are little cream colored chickens tho that lay little white eggs. lol I hope I get a good hatch out of those. Oh and Im testing out my homemade cabinet incubator right now with just eggs from my flock. I have some polish, silkies, EE's and misc. Im going to buy a replacement egg turner motor tho for my cabinet. Im just not liking how much room the one i have in there now takes up. But i have it made to where i can take out the egg turner and put in another tray for hatching. The eggs have been in there for 3 days now so im going to candle some tonight just to see whats going on in there now. Also my temp are staying right around 100 so im pretty please about that.
Good to hear! Hoping the bators work out! I should have a few Marans hatching out in the next day or two. She couldn't remember if they were from her golden cuckoo or BBS copper pens. I love mysteries! Lol. New job going good?

Great pictures! I would love to do a garden, but being lazy and no tiller, I do not want to do it all with hand tools! Lol. I might plant some in pots for the back deck. My parents put out a huge garden every year and I usually come home with a bunch of stuff from them. So I get the benefits of a garden without all the work!

OK these are a vanilla/creme sort of color, I will try to get pics tomorrow. I had the same problem, all my TSC lil banties are very timid. The seabrights are just precious tho! I keep at trying to win them over. theres a few I have no clue what they are.

Can I put my 10 week old chickens with my big hens and can they eat layers feed??
I would only recommend mixing flocks if they are close in size. I'd also recommend putting the new ones in a wire cage/pen so they all can see each other and interact safely with a barrier between them. I would also recommend changing older flock to a non layer feed and put out a bowl of oyster shell for them.
