And with their brooder mates (anyone know how to prevent them from knocking all the food out if feeders and onto the floor? It gets annoying lol)

Can I put my 10 week old chickens with my big hens and can they eat layers feed??

They really need chick feed, or at least all flock. I think the calcium in the layer may give you health problems.
My adults go out by the creek most of the day, so I am able to give the chicks a second feeding early in the day without the adults getting the high protein food.
You may be able to comingle them, are any of the adults more aggressive?
I have had pretty good luck introducing at 6 weeks with my main coop. I do it right before they roost.
Every week I've add 10-15 new birds to the main flock.
Other than a few irritated pecks from my grouchy hen its went VERY well. Even the young roos are accepted fine.

I have a sunburn from today... and feel like a french fry!

I raked all the corn stalks out of my yard (from field flooding behind my house) and mowed last Friday. I got burnt then. My hair is really thinning out on top (and I'm only 26 lol) and don't like wearing hats. I need to come up with a shampoo that has sunscreen in it lol.

I have a couple meeany chickens but big mama(one of my buff orphiontings(got her name cuz she's a grouch when she lays her eggs)) see to take the babys as hers she got in there cage and started cuddling with them lol but will grounded up corn be ok I get it free from my neighbor she works with chickens at Purdue

Today was a great day! Chickens got out to free range!!! My sister brought me grass clippings for the chicken run. The chickens LOVED it! I really enjoy watching my chickens learning to do new things.
Too fast mentioned reading about grass clippings clogging the crop. There also have been concerns about too many mealworms causing kidney damage. I did some googling about both issues, and the overall advice is "moderation is the key" when offering specific types of foods-- not only because of health problems associated with too much of one thing, but also to ensure a balanced diet. (I'm no expert, but I play one on this thread! ha)

So many beautiful photos posted today! vickichicki's arty shots, sirbuster's cute roo possibility, bradselig's scenic country chicks & babies in a box, pipd's garden assistants. My favorite was Leah's mom's hen and baby. I want a hen and baby!!

Its ok as a treat as long as they can get grit. Not as a whole food tho, theres little value in corn nutritionally. Avoid corn as a treat when its hot out, it raises their body temp.

That's so cute! She just wants to be a mom-- that's why she's grouchy. : - ) Chicks need to eat a more complete diet than just corn. Your neighbor probably gives the corn to you for scratch, as an addition to their chick starter, but you could ask her. Maybe she puts something else in it.
