Sorry I actually had a question but got side tracked. My rooster is plucking my hens clean. ( I'm over run with roos that's the main problem) I right now only have 3 buff hens and 1 buff roo but he does not give them a break. And the OEGBs are after them all the time bc all their hens are setting or raising chicks right now and seperated. But they will grab them trying to catch them and pluck feathers. What should I do? I don't have a place I could seperate them unless I cage my girls. How long will it take for feathers to grow back? And should I be putting something on them? I just feel like giving up :(

Dont give up it will all work out :). You could get more hens or get a nicer rooster. I woild say seperate them but since that isnt an option i would try one of the two above and see if that makes things better for the hens. It took my EE hen 3 weeks to hrow back her 3rd primary wing feather. But she was only missing one feather so i dont really know.

Piped- I'm so glad Rangi is doing better. Funny how attached we get!!!;)

Ok so the pic I did earlier doesn't seem to open for me so ill try again. Any ideas what it is??

I was thinking about getting rid of my roo. I have 7 unrelated chicks in my brooder and no I will have a roo. My luck I will have 7 lol but I have the worst time "rehoming" roos. That's why I still have 3 OEGB. Eating them isn't an option. That was the reason for getting them but all a sudden someone got all WHAT u want to eat our babies? (It wasn't me btw) lol so they are just here reaking havoc on my hens :( I would LOVE LOVE to get some more hens but bc of all my setters and brooders and the fact that my chicken yard will never get finished lol ( I had to take up old fence ad I'm waiting for. Tractor to magicly appear to pull the old wooden post so I can start planting new ones. Think I should go out cut the posts off at the ground with a chain saw and put the new ones up around them. Lol) I'm not sure where to put them until they get use to being here and use to my over active roo lol sheeesh I just don't no?

can you let the roosters free range in another area, even if they don't have access to the coop during the day.
Some places like ebay sell cheap saddles, they can be pricey from the hatchery. I think there are threads on here that sell home made saddles. I'm sure once you got a few you could even make you own, they don't look that complicated.

I'd consider saddles for the hens to save their backs. Or you can always do a temporary pen with a few metal t-posts and chicken wire...keep the roos in there during the day? Or put your hens in there during the day???

ETA: Oops - just saw that the poster above me already recommended this...lol.

I still have a hard time keeping up. I blame most of it on my phone. I think I may just have to suck it up and get internet in the house. But no t.v.s! Lol I see people talk about the members list but Im still not sure what it is? Please excuse my ignorance but I'm pretty sure I don't get to see everything on the site. I can switch from mobile to desktop and everything with completly change but I can't use any of the functions :( and I guess the pictures I managed to upload the other day was a fluke bc iv not been able to do it again? Pipd glad your baby is ok she's adorable. Quin. I like the coop and agreen you could collect a good amount of water off of just a small edge it doesn't take much. You would be suprised. Danand I'm not sure what kind or chick you have but its to cute! And zippy welcome this is a great place if you have better luck with your electronics than I do lol

Here is a link to the members page, well I guess our page with another link to the members page. As for pictures, I've given up uploading directly to BYC. I upload to photobucket and paste the
