Exciting morning, I was able to watch an egg hatch for the first time in my life! Wow it was a very neat thing to see. I noticed one of my white chicks pacing outside, then she went inside to her roost and paced. The she was off to the nesting box, she tried all 4 and finally settled in the first one. About 10 minutes later there it was so small and perfectly white! And this is from the one I was sure was a roo. She had a large comb from day 1. Still not sure what she is, lol, but she is a she! So I have gotten 5 eggs. 3 whites and 2 green. Nothing more from the EE, unless she has opted to lay them outside.
The girls have all settled down in the yard and coop. The coop is separated 8x8 for the big girls and 4x8 for the small girls, but the yard is all open to them with plenty of hiding places for the small girls who still get picked on by the big girls. At about 845 pm all the girls head to their side and get settled in. The only problem I see is that the small girls roost on top of the door. We have a screen door and a full door for use during winter which we leave open, and those little stinkers actually roost on the door itself. When I take them down and close the door they actually fly and try to roost up on the 2x4's. Yea there is not enough room so the hit the wall and fall to the floor only to try and try again. So, we have for now decided to leave it open. They won't all fit up there for much longer, so trying to figure out a way to put the roost higher to make them happy.
