INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I worked more on my new coop today but instead of working on it outside I worked on it in the basement. LOL It was warmer today but the winds were strong so it felt colder.LOL We had snow and ice melting so it was over freezing temp at least. Well what i really did today was build the rafters for the roof and started cutting apart the pallets for my siding.

just curious here, what does one need to have to keep a goat.
Shelter, protection from preditors, clean fresh water, vaccinations, regular hoof trimmings, wormings as needed, grain, hay(when browse isn't availabe) grass is fine if they are not producing milk then alfalfa, mineral supplements, other goats or other animal companionship, and lots of love! I love my goats. They are fun and mischevious. Like 3 year olds with hooves!

I have approx. 25 chickens. All different breeds (I like to experiment).

Winter so far has been OK. Our coop is pretty well insulated, but one of my roos did get some frostbite on two of his comb "peaks". Not sure how concerned I should be considering we haven't even hit the coldest part of winter yet. We didn't have any problems last winter, but it was a really mild one. Since this fall we lost 2 birds (one bantam, one full size) to hawk(s) and one bantam who just never came home one evening. Of all the birds I'm only getting bout 2 eggs/day right now. Bummer.

Hello everyone. I'm in paragon. We don't have any chickens or ducks. Still in the planning stage. Supposedly there is an ordinance against chickens here, but both neighbors on both sides of me have chickens. We already have bees and have been really enjoying them.
Jason

Welcome Jason glad to have you with us! Have you decided what breed of chicken you want?

Welcome! Glad you made it here!

Hello from north of indy! 6 chickens and more to come
Welcome, happy to see you joined us!!

I can't wait for the warmer temps. I'm hoping the rain will hold off for an hour or so for me to be able to clean out the coop. This has been the first winter with the chickens. Surprisingly it hasn't been too horrible. I'm glad i switched from the 3gal waterer to the heated dog bowl. Much easier to just bring out a small bucket of water once or twice a day rather than a 5gal bucket to fill the waterer a couple times a week.

Getting excited about having chicks again!
