Whoever told you that you weren't welcome on the thread should be whipped with a feather!

You've been at the Chickenstocks and sharing with us on BYC, so you should be considered an honorary Hoosier, at least in my opinion.

Is everyone enjoying that beautiful weather today? I got quite a bit done out there today. It's just fun working with chickens, don't you think?

I won't name any names, but you can probably use your imagination.

Thanks for making me feel welcome! I am on the Buckeye thread as well, but nobody is anywhere near me.

Yes keeping predators out would be great as well. Thankfully I don't have too many issues thus far. Hawks have been the only issue. The last one tried to attack them while I was out there with them! I was able to run in and get the gun and fired warning shots (I'm it willing to pay the fines and jail time for killing a bird protected under the migratory act lol) and it hasn't been back since. Cars have been my only other "predator". The chickens learned to cross the road from the guineas when I had them. Now I can't break them of it. And have observed that they have learned to run pretty fast across the road to avoid cars, but I still don't like it. I was hoping a fence would deter this behavior.

I'm still not sure exactly what other animals I'd like to keep. I've always had an interest in a couple of wallabies but would like to use a privacy fence so people don't sop and mess with them. An emo or two has also sparked my interest. Of course id want to double check the type of fence I would use for anything I'm even considering prior to purchase.

I've figured that I'd need around 1300 ft, so using the field fence wouldn't be too bad in price. Just wasn't sure if the 6x6 holes would do much protecting against smaller predators like opossums, raccoons, or skunks.
Went to an auction once and saw an ox up for sale, yes an Ox in Indiana!

Any ideas for what I should do about all of the mud in the chicken area. I did not realize how much of their area they had scratched up the grass in until all of this rain came and mud is everywhere I look.

I've been putting straw over the mud. It helps, but I'm not sure how it's going to go when it's time to clean it up.

If anyone has better ideas I'd love to hear them, too!

Raccoon will climb any fence. The only way around racoons are traps, or coop your birds, even then, its not a guarantee.. Skunk and opossum will dig under... I trapped a few coons this spring, but the geese seem to keep them away now. Emu aren't real hard to keep from what I am learning, but dogs and coyote will go after them. They are pretty interesting HUGE birds lol! The former owner of my alpaca had them. I got to hear the female "drumming" very cool. The do need a lot of room to run, and probably 6 ft fencing to keep them in.

SIMZ~ I also put straw down. They climbed it like a mountain and then scratched through it til it was spread out. Lots of entertainment. They actually stayed out in the sprinkles until the wind started
