INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

As been as everyone here has been so wonderful I will share with you my inability to resist the urge of new chicks. I kept it off for several days and I am proud of myself.. After seeing the Bantams... well... 7 made it home with me.

However there is an amazing lack of response for the what breed category, so I figured I would copy and paste it here. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/749384/wheee-more-little-ones

Maybe some awesome people on the Hoosier list could help me out..

Many thanks

Ooh I hear them... must go check

Only 2 were laying then, I've got a 3rd laying now, and all the eggs are nice sized. I plan on hatching feb.- june. So Ican have them in tractors and use them for meat. I would guess 6 would be good per month to eat ( there's only the DH, me,and 2 small children)... and any extras either to sell, or keep as layers. The last hatch in june Iwill try for a large number so we have meat through the winter.

Oh vicki! Those bantams are sooo cute. I think next time I go, I will get some too. I've been looking on youtube, murray mcmurray hatchery shows what the breeds look like as chicks.... that way I can pick the kinds I want.

I was dead excited to see the bantam mix at TSC. Could not help myself. However we did drive to another sTSC to see what they had and they were rather lacking. There were several light grey coloured chicks with fluffy feet and a few more with tufted heads, however in the short half hour drive, they were all but gone!

At this point I was after certain breeds, but I am not as fussy anymore. I just need more chickens!!!

Nothing more fun than watching them chase crickets around. Or enjoying the satisfaction of collecting fresh eggs every morning.

I called Orschelns today and they said next Friday. They were scheduled to get a shipment tomorrow but due to storms they delayed it a week. They had a very nice selection last year including naked necks, LF polish, guineas, geese, etc. I didn't pay too much attention to the other chicks as I wanted more of he oddball breeds. I really shouldnt be looking But if they have naked necks again, I'm grabbing them!

Rural king by me had a bigger selection than TSC did. I didn't buy any but wanted to. I have to keep telling myself that my 7 ameracauna chicks are enough.
