INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Does anyone have a broody they would part with? These eggs are NOT hatching. I'll let them go another 36 hours or so. Today was day 22.

I would take them out and candle. If you dont see any movement i would let them sit till tomorrow and then if nothing happens take them out and crack them open to see what might have gone wrong. I would then calibrate therm and hydro. Sorry they didnt hatch.

I know what you mean. I need to get my new coop complete but yup Life happens.  No we have a new baby and I have been spending all my time with her. Spring is coming and chickens need more room so coop needs to get done soon. But i say this every day! :lau

Gotta enjoy those babies while they are little. They grow WAY too fast. (Congratulations BTW) My oldest "baby" just got his first job this week. Wowzers the years fly by!

I am actually getting rid of my bantams hopefully. However, I still have 2 Rhode island bantam roos that need to leave. I am trying to make some room for 10 black stars, 5 jersey giants, 6 Rhode island reds and 6 Cornish cross. And my Phyllis is sitting on 4 eggs. Lol. I have gone chicken nuts.

My banty hen is a black Cochin. About a year, little over. From what her previous owner told me, her mommy was a notorious brooder. Like clock work every spring and fall.

My bantam Cochins love being broody and are fantastic at both hatching and raising chicks. Great mommas :)

How can you tell sex after a few weeks? I thought it was tricky up to about 12 weeks or so.

Other than silkies and showgirls, we can usually tell boys from girls by 3-4 weeks.

Crafty - where did you get the eggs from? I've been having horrible luck with shipped eggs, but I've been seeing many others also experiencing the same. Many eggs developing making it to lock down, but never pip or hatch. They are thinking its something the PO is doing to the packages? I'm not sure but find it odd I can hatch 19 or 21 eggs picked up locally, but am lucky of I get one to hatch with shipped eggs.

My chicks are no more than 5 weeks old and I can easily tell some of them are Roos. Here are some of the RIR I ordered from Meyers. All are supposed to be pullets, but a roo got thrown into the mix.

I think I have 2 roos and 2 hens out of the campines. 2 of them have large red combs already and the other 2 have little yellow ones.

Here is some pics of my 4 campines. They are suppose to be golden but only 1 looks really like a golden one so far. They are around 5 weeks old.

This is the 1 that looks more like golden. Has big Red comb. Think this is a roo.

Not very good pic. Son had hard time holding them still for pics. Hard to tell but this looks more silver and has small comb. Think its a hen.

Another campine that looks silver. Medium comb but think it might be a roo.

This 1 looks more silver but has little golden tint around it. Medium comb more yellow that red. Might be hen.

Looks like frost bite to me. Looks like its on 2 toes. I have a hen like that same toe. It fell off but she still gets around pretty good. Im pretty sure its not your fault. So dont beat your self up over it. Things like this happens.
