Here is a pic of 1 my Ameraucanas that I bought from store awhile back. It was suppose to be pullet but think it might be a roo. It has a lot more red. Some little feathers on back end seem to be swooping down. The others don't have any red in them.

Here is a pic of some of my chickens out foraging by the barn.

Got another wall done today on new coop. Put window in as well.

Hope you enjoyed my photos!!
Coop is looking fantastic!

Well today was the day, coop windows "screened in" (hardware cloth) and tinted. Finishing touches done.

They don't know what to make of it. They do not want to be out of the house and are very much being mamas birds. .................

First day out is so cute. Wait til day 3 or so, and when they get their first worm

Oh my its so fun!!!

I have just spent the better part of the day watching my bantams... (sure my neighbours will think me mad sitting there all day). Discovered all the chicks are big wienies... After the first one flew down and got back into the coop, not a single one decided to venture to the ground. Had three of them take a trip half way down the branch, but never made it to the floor. Almost all made an effort to perch on the opening to have a look.

I closed the coop up for the evening, they did not seem bothered. Maybe tomorrow they will pluck up the courage to make it to the ground and investigate the tasty grass.

Also dawned on me after being out there all day how many chickens I currently own. Counted 30... Holy moley, when did that happen??

My last batch of chicks left the brooder in the house today
sad.png
i have been raising batches since febuary- now chick season is over for me
sad.png
went ahead and cleaned brooder box, heat lamp, and chick feeders and stored them all away to prevent me rushing to rual king to buy what i can before they stop selling them next month.my living room feels empty with no brooder or loud cheeping.my husband is doing a happy dance, because the house is finally chick free. Lol. I was excited to get this last batch out because they were wild hooligans. But now i miss them lol.good news my babies who was turned out today seemed to be taken under my buff orps, Ee,and brahmas wings:) cant say the same for my RIR & sex links that thought it was amusing to terrorize the new arrivals- lol.
You are wayyyyyyy stronger than me I am flat hooked! Hatching every egg my girls lay, they hate me

DH is attempting to build me a coop for the BO's. I had a vision & bless his heart he's trying. It's not pretty & a few times I was holding my breath, but I am glad he put the effort in. He keeps saying he's a Boilermaker not a carpenter & I rebuttal with it's the first homebuilt coop so it's a learning experience. I decided to coop each breed separately & call it Coopertown. Lol It's gonna be a general store, church, saloon, school, jail, bank etc. wanted to be silly & unique with our abundance of coops lol Again, first is not pretty, but thankful he is trying to support my addiction of chickens. Lol

Woohoo go Purdue and the boilermakers

Its awesome he is supporting and helping! My DH just goes along with "whatever" and does the hard stuff I can't. I am doing the same, dividing breeds and working towards NPIP.

Hey everyone.. I was a Lil sad yesterday after processing our first hog. "Bacon" He was pretty special, lot of fun too.. played with a bowling ball, jumped around like a piglet when i brought a roll of hay with the tractor. LOVED belly rubs ear scratches and just being touched... I really was more attached to him than I should be, but he had a good life. We sure loved him, and he was so spoiled! We moved him away from the other 3 pigs, I didn't want to frighten them. I want my kids to understand sustainability.and my youngest DD (20) even joined us for dinner today, pork loin. It was hard to do this but with GMO lurking... I want to know what is going into our food. We try to raise here what we intend to eat.... It has helped my Moms health a lot.

Glad you got round to biting the bullet with Bacon. I have not named a single chicken, even though I am quite attached I know eventually they will be dinner when the laying slows down for them. My DH keeps talking about getting a piglet. Fortunately you can not have swine in our county unless you are zoned for it. He would never be able to make it dinner when the time comes. The chicks my friend gave me we have decided we might try our first dressing with them. Defiantly do not have the attachment to them like I do the chicks I picked out. Will be a good place to start the detachment of the chickens.

At least you know what your Bacon ate. Where he has been and know he had much fun before he got there, which is a whole lot more than can be said for most meat purchased today. Good for you :hugs
