INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

so I have been on vacation at my home for the last 9 days, turned off the internet and cell phone and had 596 posts to read. now that those are done I can show you what I accomplished.

these are some of the new chicks that I just hatched on 4/15/13, a mix of mutts going to a woman I work with and her children.

and our new project sheep!!! there is one old ewe in there and 9 ewe lambs about 4 months old. We are only keeping 5 of the lambs and the old ewe but I am pasturing the others out for my father-in-law. lots of fun for the whole family!!

Mine are going through that phase too. Yours are looking good!
Thanks Kiniska. There was a bit of discussion among other members about them having vulture hocks, I'm new and not going to show, so I just want healthy happy birds. These guys are LF cochins so they are huge boned lol!

Poor chickens... thankfully the scary stage does not last too long. My cochin has finally feathered in the top layer so she/he looks all cute and round. Thinking of making my wee one build a lego city and setting a few of the dino chicks in it.... Rawr!!!!
They don't think they look scary, thats the funny part. They are very confident in themselves. ;) My bantams are getting cute now they are 6 weeks and have all of their feathers. These are LF so they look even sillier I think. I like the godzilla idea.

Too fast - the coup looks great. Glad to see your progress. We have clay here too and digging is daunting!

I hyper- your right they look like they have bell bottoms on-- cute!!

AmericaunaMom - I'm pretty sure based on your facebook link..I bought the showgirl from "you". The woman I worked with had a baby strapped to her chest and said they were her sisters birds. Of all of the folks I did talk to that day and none being members here, she's the only one I didn't ask. go figure. I was so distracted by her reaching back into the back of that cage after the bird with the baby!! lol!! I was like...ooops..eeek...awe... haha! Lovely family btw and congrats on the polish doing so well there.

Yep that sounds like my Daughter, baby and all !! LOL !! She is Sebrightmom on BYC. My youngest daughter Megan is the one who loves the showgirls and frizzles, and if it is a frizzled showgirl all the better to her !!!

Well I was thrilled to go and glad I did. I wondered if it was frizzled...I'm not use to the silkie breeds and it's so hard to tell if they're frizzled/sizzled or what!
I've been considering showing (Black Copper Marans) but wouldn't know where to begin. Is there a good site to reference for what steps to take to enter?

I would love to see the plans for this coop. It sounds like something I could turn into a dream coop for me. Not that we would be building it this year but I like to plan and dream.
If you don't want to post the plans, maybe you could post 15 pictures or so showing the outside and inside setups. Your coop looks fantastic.
Hello Sally :) Thank you. We didn't really have any actual plans. We just converted a 10x20 storage shed. We put in 10- 18x27 shed windows we purchased online (w/safety glass -four across the long back wall-two on each narrow end and one on each side of the front doors), insulated the walls and ceiling with the pink accordion style thin insulation (don't know what it is called-sorry) then covered the insulation with thin OSB so the birds wouldn't peck at it. My DH made pop doors with 1x2's and luan (doors approx 12"x12" except the Polish door that is 12"x15") and then used 2x4s to frame out the walls which are approx 7ft tall. I thought since we have so many Silkies and Showgirls I wanted to separate into breeding pens and they don't really fly or roost much, that we could utilize the overhead space with more bantam runs for my kids birds that they plan to show and possibly breed down the road. This winter we had a few breeds in together for warmth (current coops are fairly warm but not insulated) and that really got me motivated. I never want to see another Polish roo "jumping" a little D'Uccle girl ever again, so all of the teenie tiny ones have their own space. We will have a pens for Porcelain D'Uccles, Grey Japanese, BBS Silkies, BBS Showgirls, White Showgirls, Bantam Cochins/frizzled Cochins, SL Polish, BCW Polish and one for our "assorted bantams" that are just pets but too small to be in with our laying flock. As soon as I have the coop finished, I will definitely post pics for you.
