Im so envious, the kids and I were just out attaching the hardware cloth around the base of ours. Do you have pics?My coop will be finished tomorrow! Or at least DH says it will be...Then we have to attach a run, and then fence in a big portion of our yard for them... But at least the coop will be done!![]()
Oh, my chickens killed their first mouse. It had been getting into the feed/treats, but with all the animals I have here, I can't poison them, so I tried different containers. Apparently they couldn't get into the container, and tried to get into the brooder instead....where my 3 month old flock promptly dispatched him.

I want to compare.
Also do either of you think the push style ones are better than the screw in kind?
Quote: Another weekend down and the coop still isn't finished. Sigh. We got a lot done on Saturday and I was so happy that we didn't end up with more rain like they were forecasting. We do not need any more water. Friday night we got about 6 inches in a matter of a few hours. It was one of the heaviest rains I've ever seen here. Really hoping we miss out on the thunderstorms we're supposed to get later in the week. I have way too much to get accomplished outside.
Here is where we left off with the coop on Saturday. We were really hoping to work on is some more on Sunday, but as you can see by the picture, our yard was a bit out of control so we ended up using Sunday to take back out yard from nature. I felt like I was waging a personal war on the ticks. It felt good. So, the plan is to have the coop done and the chickens in it by next Sunday. We figure we can get the sheeting done this week, windows and door in, and worry about aesthetics after the chicks are out of the house. I'm guessing we won't have their run completed until the weekend after though. Are there any issues with making them stay inside the coop for a week? We are going to have 5 windows plus roof venting, so I don't think heat should be an issues. I suppose we could always rig something up so that they can go under the coop until the run is done. My only regret about not getting more done is that I really wanted to pick up some guineas at the swap this weekend, but I think I'm going to have to wait. The last thing we need are guineas in the house as well!
My DH likes the bird too but he eats and eats and well it is not a breed we plan to stick with. $5 if the other person does not want him.
I have to say I love your coop. I'm in the process of blueprinting our next coop. I really like how you did the raised platform and the slant roof. Do you plan to collect the rain water? I'm trying to decide if I want to or not.
adding in that I think you could easily have a featured coop in the coop section with all of your great photos. you would need to type out measurements and plans but your coop looks wonderful.
I used the screw in type. I read a bad review about the push in. Don't remember where. I have no complaints about the screw in style except the instructions called for a certain sized hole to be drilled. It was hard to get the nipple to screw in. I drilled the hole 1/32 larger and it worked perfectly.do you have a link to the ones on Amazon?
