INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

It's always exciting to hatch eggs, but when they are eggs from your own birds it seems to be much more exciting! Here are the first chicks I've ever hatched from my flock! A naked neck chick (buff NN hen and Birchen Marans roo) and 3 coturnix quail. More coturnix are still hatching.

And just because I love them, more of my tolbunt chicks. Still hoping the smooth feathered ones get more brown, but not holding my breath. I love the frizzled color though.

beautiful!

Gees! My Pekin laid a perfect egg in her own little make shift nest this morning, and then two more soft shelled (maybe more but that's all I found) in the yard today. I watched her lay the two this afternoon about 30 minutes apart. What the heck!? It's like she's on speed! hopefully tomorrow is better for her.

Hello all! I just returned from my honeymoon, and I'm looking to build back up my flock after the coyote and dog attacks. I am finally getting my perimeter fence next week! Anyway, I came back to find that instead of 2 roosters, I have 6. Apparently some were late bloomers. If anyone has any chicks/youngish chickens for sale within a couple of hours from me, I'm looking to buy!

ShawnaScott-Little Ameraucana Mom is having a Chicken sale this weekend. You might find some there. If you look at her recent posts, you should find the info but she is here in Greencastle. Congratulations and welcome back.

I may have some mixed chicks available, just haven't decided if I'm going to sell them yet or not. If you're willing to wait, I can hatch some out for you. They would be naked neck, white Plymouth Rock, Birchen Marans hens covered by a Birchen Marans roo. Just let me know.

so so so sooooo cute Brad! i want to keep your frizzle in my pocket :) i just checked my eggs in the incubator (only 4 days in) and 4 of the 6 have veins already! excited mommy. for those of you with egg decrease~ i found a couple mites under some of my girls wings, so i dusted them and the coop and voila i am up to 3 a day. hoping the rest fall in line too.

that's a good idea.... Checking for mites. I went out tonight and quickly checked over my six years old Speckles (BR) but she is so cranky I gave it up! I'll do a better job of it tomorrow night. She hadn't laid in about a month but she looks as though she might be molting... And she is six, but my 3 year old hasn't laid in about a week now either. I'll give them a good look over. I considered possibly internal parasites too. Ick I hope not. And hurray for babies!!!! It's the longest three weeks, isn't it?!

Haha ok, I won't go looking at your house

. If you want a roo, I may have an extra depending on the sex of these chicks.
NOOOOO! Don't tempt me!! I have 3 boys now. I need to find a girly. Have you ever heard of a cochin bred to a polish? I am planning on breeding Oliver (the little black bantam cochin that currently resides at the end of our property with my mother in law with his 2 LF hens.... hilarious btw, ) with my silkie hens. I would love a polish hen to breed to Blueberry, or Oliver, depending on if she was bantam or standard.

I just have to say, there are some days that I get on here to get away from everything else. You all are great. I figure after a crappy day there is nothing better than to dive head first into chicken conversation. If it's too dark out to go out and watch them free range and peck around to relax from the day, I'll come on here for some uplifting discussion.
