Haha! My hubby is an enabler, so I don't have that issue. He did nix my idea of wanting Emu!
Oh my! They look adorable! Will you be selling the pups?
Yes, we are selling some of the pups. I think what we have left are Red Tri's. 3 females and a male. I think somewhere around $350-400.

Anyone who does decide to necropsy poultry can take or send the bird to one of Purdue's diagnostic labs, West Lafayette and Jasper. There is no charge. Keep the body refrigerated, and if you ship it, ask FedEx for a cooling container--don't tell them what you're putting in it. (They have to know, when it's going to the diagnostic lab, but.....) Ship it overnight. Don't keep the bird more than a day or so before shipping or delivering.
It may sound cruel not to just bury the pet, but then you know what you're dealing with.

Pbirdhaven-
Any more info you have on the necropsy @ Purdue would be appreciated. From what I read on the Purdue Animal disease site, a chicken necropsy charge is at least $115.
Appreciate the insight!

I finally get to join the club! Found this last night while tucking in the chicks. It was right outside the nesting boxes, so I'm hoping the next few actually make it inside. It's so tiny and I absolutely love it! I think it was either Wanda (BR) or Lavon (BA), but I can't be certain. They seem to be the most mature looking of the group. Hopefully I find another little surprise today!
Congrats!!! :celebrate

Those of you that are planning to attend the bloomington chicken show, can you tell me more about it? Are there lots of blue chickens, Chickens with long tails, Heritage Chickens? I'm trying to decide weather to take my children there or to a customer appreciation in Edinburgh where there will be a bouncy house and snow cones.

I was able to snap a quick picture of Lavon over lunch to give you an idea of what the spiral bands end up looking like. I'll see if I can't get a better photo of someone tonight. They weren't really cooperating.

You can put several on each chicken for identification.

Blue, blue, blue, chicken 1. Blue, blue, red, chicken 2. Orange, red, green, chicken 47.

Plus it's pretty. The hens can compare bracelets and show off for the roosters. Some care should be taken to avoid tacky color combinations. You wouldn't want to shame a hen. She might stop laying. Also, roosters should have manly colors. No pink.

You posts never cease to amuse! There was much consideration put into the decision for colors. I thought about adding some bling, but figured they'd just try to eat it. But on the plus side, I'd have shiny chicken poop!
