Hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving! I took an hour out of family time to take my hens out of their fenced-in yard for their daily field trip to the far back yard "nature preserve." It was cold, but sunny and I enjoyed some relaxing chicken therapy time. :p

Jchny -- I am so sorry to hear that you are sick! It's not only terrible that you feel miserable, but I'm sure you've been worrying about caring for your parents and all of poultry and livestock. If I lived closer, I'd volunteer to help. Keep us posted when you can. :hugs

Root beer float -- I'm sure that our members can advise you about where to get "production reds" as I believe they're also called. My RIR came from Rural King. Some members prefer Heritage breeds. There are more experienced people on our thread who can help you, but two main questions they'll ask first is, "Are your chickens pets that lay eggs as an extra benefit or are your chickens being raised for good egg production as well as for healthful food?

CCCHICKENS -- Nice egg basket present from your mom!

Bradselig -- Congrats on your Holiday Hatch!

*good not food :0
lol, typo
She does look like a RSL. We are hoping to get more in the spring we only have a few now. Any food suggestions on where?
Tons of hatcheries have them. the hardware store in bluffton, only ever gets golden comets. Meyer hatchery has them and they are there number one seller. Some Rural kings, Big Rs (I think), and TSCs get them but not all. You can even make your own.

So Lavenders chicks are 7 weeks now and still sleeping under her. So into the big coop they go. They found the top roost. Once Gus and the rest of the flock came in, they got booted to the floor. I'll go out after dark and put them all back on the roosts. They really don't want to be out of the barn. Lavender tries everything she can to escape and high tail it back to the barn brooder with the kids.
Not sure about this one. Definitely a boy, I thought EE x Wyandotte, but I'm not for sure.

Little miss Pickles, next to momma, has a beard! I thought she was pure SLW Now I think she may end up Silver Laced EE?? lol

Lavender, Pickles, Cricket, Raven

They got to be on the top roost, just until the flock was done with dinner. Side note, I think I need aprons for my SLW ladies. Gus only mounts them. He is prejudice.
