INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Hello all Indiana friends.
big_smile.png
I'm looking for Buckeye breeders in central to northern Indiana and southern Michigan. I've looked at the http://www.americanbuckeyeclub.blogspot.com/p/breeders-directory.html webpage and contacted people there with no replies. I've since contacted JoshU in Ohio who said there are people over here who breed Buckeyes so I'm putting the call to my friends to help put me in touch with said breeders.

Your help is much appreciated.
Peace!
Have you posted in this thread? I'm sure many of them attend shows and know breeders.

Hello, I'm new to BYC and I'm in good old Indiana! :) Nice to know I'm not the only chicken farming Hoosier!

Welcome to BYC! Glad you found this thread!

Currently thinking about getting a rooster for my barred rocks in the spring and seeing if I can get some to hatch in the summer. In my past 3 years of chicken farming, I haven't done incubating before. Is it worth a try? Does the roo have to be the same exact age? And when do eggs start to become fertile? Also any advice is appreciated.

Hey all. I live in Orleans, Ind. My ex and I had a hatchery for about 3 yrs. Im out of the business now but still have a variety of birds. I'm looking for a pair of Nankins. I had a set two years ago and would like to get another pair. Anyone know of a breeder?
Welcome! The only person I know is little ameraucana mom here on BYC. I gotta ask, I'm assuming you have Cochins? What colors do you have and bantam or LF? Do you sell eggs, chicks, or pullets?
So according the the almanac's formula tomorrow and Sunday are in the "best" days of the year to set eggs that hatch in 21 days. Something to do with the moon pattern. I did not do the actual calculations but the days are listed on a website. I'm setting tomorrow evening after I get tomorrow's eggs. Anyone else want to set some eggs too?
Ok, you twisted my arm! I'll have to look and see how many I have to set.
Fingers crossed! I know how eggciting hatch time is. STILL is;-) Welcome! Nice catch there Brad...I missed the reptile part of the name. Pretty bad considering we own around two-hundred ball pythons. I can hear the shrieks now. lol No but seriously you should check out the morphs if you haven't already. Balls are great snakes and the color mutations/genetics side of it is fascinating and never-ending. I will have to post some pics of some of my favorites if anyone is interested. The snakes are really my husband's passion, but I dig them too. You can check out his website here: www.serenityserpents.com I'm trying to find some more. Doug Akers? I know that name...he breeds 'brights?
Very cool! I had a good number of ball pythons as well. The genetics really interested you, but I quickly found out I'm not a snake person and prefer lizards. Snakes just don't have a personality, IMO.
Any info on the next upcoming show in Indiana. I went to the poultry show website but almost all of the dates are for last year. I also know that some of the more local shows don't get listed. next is there anyone breeding khaki campell ducklings in central Indiana. Or would anyone want to split an order. There is ideal, welp, murray, lots of places taking orders for ducklings, but I really don't want 15. I was thinking more of 2 for me.
It's a distance up here, but I could see if I could add the ducks to my ideal order that's shipping first week of February. As far as a locally, might check with little ameraucana mom's daughter, seabrightmom. I know she has Cayuga, can't remember if they have Campbells.
So far two out of ten eggs have hatched. I have a splash and a black.
Congrats!

Might try little ameraucana mom here on the forum. She did have buckeyes the last time I picked up chicks from her.

Welcome! What breeds do you have?

Hi, thanks.
I currently have a mixed flock of 11. 1 BarredRock Roo and 1 RIR, 2 Ameracauna hens and 2 Blacks, we were told they were NJGiants and the rest are also BarredRocks. But this spring I'm hopefully getting some silkies and Phoenixes to show. :) we also have 3 cats, one I'm sure thinks she is part chicken. I got a funny pic of her in the nesting box with my Ameracauna, Bronze. :)

Hello and thanks.
My dad and I tried to incubate 14 of our BR eggs and only ended up with one hatching but in my oppinion it is, its cheaper for one and you have fun watching them hatch. From what I know, {which is limited} he doesn't have to be the same age but I think you should wait until he is atleast a year right? (Not an expert so someone else can chime in.) And I want to say that eggs are fertile as soon as but I have no real idea? :)

Quote: I don't have that many to set but I'm trying to set frequently to grow my RIR flock. The mutts I plan to sell as straight run really really cheap.
It will be fun to see whose eggs hatch first. Of course if you are using quail eggs I think the set day changes. The almanac is about trying to match hatch dates with moon phases.

The ducks I'm looking at either ideal or welp. Each has their plus and minus. Ideal says that they might include crested ducks as part of my order, but they would be females. Welp has the traditional khaki campbells but their ducks are straight run. The minimum is lower for ideal so I'm leaning towards them. Both places offer more than fair shipping.
As for adding them to your order, you are right the distance is a bit much given Ideal's cheaper shipping of less than $15.

Tossed a few of my chickens into the covered run around noon. there is about 3 steps they need to walk in snow to get back in to the coop. so far all are still in the run. The ducks had already been in and out of the run trying to herd the chickens out too.

As for boredom, I found tossing an entire head of cabbage into the coop lasted almost a day. they did not care for it as much if I broke off the leaves but preferred to do it themselves. I think they actually liked pecking at it when it was slightly frozen better too.

Its fun to watch them too!
My goofball ducks are out in the rain right now, all of the geese too!
Went out to check on them, with it warming up, critters will be moving about and hungry.
Have my traps set tonight too just to be safe.

Happy chickies!!

Mine still have a lot of snow, but its melting fast!!!
I have to do something with my coop soon. Roof is looking bad..
If I hadn't covered it with the old pool liner they would be soaked!
Told DH we need to get a supply list made and start laying out ideas for the new coops.

No, doesn't look like it.
I was referring to him since he has some very nice breeds, but our timing never matched for purchasing them.

I have some mixed bantams I could set. My quail started laying so I have 2 eggs in there..lol.
I do want to test the fertility on my sebright and OEGB so sure, I'll go for it!!
