Roosters without hens normally co-exist without problems. Depends on your turkeys. Watch them to see how it goes. But, 3 of those chicks my broody hatched were boys, so there's 14 layers and 3-4 month olds pullets. The Roos are singing their songs now, and I've seen them trying to do the deed. So I think my flock is upset about the rowdy boys. Can I put the boys in the coop with my turkeys? The turkey run is right next to the chicken yard. Will they fight each other if none of them can get to the chickens? Or do I need to get them their own space until they mature to decide who's going to be good for the flock. I plan on keeping just on rooster.
anyone out there live near a Krispy Creme place and want to bring me some donuts?

Do the "smell test" and take a good wiff of those eggs at lockdown. IF they smell get them out of there!
crickets gonna be a really handsome guy!
Oh no! Hope the vet can help her. May take a stitch or 2 but hope she will be okWell, the good news here is that it was 55 and sunny today, so I spent five hours outside with the girls.Unfortunately, it's supposed to be 3 degrees by morning! Plus 55 mph gusts and possibly snow.
I know you can't feel too sorry for me considering what you northerners are going through!![]()

The bad news is that I think Adeline has vent prolapse! She's been acting fine, but I knew that she's been laying elsewhere and I've looked around the past week, but haven't seen a stash. Luckily, right before they went in for the night, I checked under that same ornamental grass bush and found 7 of her eggs and 1 of Bonbon's. I've looked in that bush several times lately, but somehow missed seeing the eggs. Anyway, one of Adeline's had a smear of fresh blood. I knew she had laid today because when we were out in the back, she went into the fenced area and when she came out, she loudly sang the Egg Song (extended version!) Anyway, after I checked saw the eggs, I checked Adeline's vent and it looks like prolapse.
I'll take her to the vet tomorrow to be sure. I haven't noticed her or anyone having diarrhea, so I don't know exactly what has caused it. DH and I are getting ready to eat dinner (he's grilling out lol), so afterwards, I'll bring Adeline and Bonbon both in for the night before the arctic blast hits, and I'll give Adeline a bath and put some coconut oil on the area. Geez.
I am thankful that she's acted fine and had a great day.![]()

Dunkin Donuts and the grocery store bakeries managed to squeeze the actual krispy Kreme shop near us into closing. They ship some of their more popular donuts to the gas stations and grocery stores around us. But typically there are no cinnamon twists and the blueberry cakes sell out fast. There are yeast donuts but of course they are not fresh off the bakery belts. Not that I eat donuts every day but once in a while I like them for an early afternoon snack. Combine that with the lack of availability of the exact donuts I want, and all of a sudden donuts sound great. It almost gives me a reason for visiting KY.Quote:SallyinIndiana ~ I'm afraid that all the people who surround your area are granola-eaters!
Of course granola makes a nice snack too. A lot healthier and crunchier. But I have that in my pantry so of course I don't want it today. Just like eggs. I always want to bake and cook with eggs when the chickens are in a slow down laying period.
Ugh I never eat sweets but I sure miss Krispy Kreme! They had a chocolate covered white cake one I couldn't say NO to.
I am soooo excited for you! What did you order!Ok so i have this date ticker on my laptop of when my new BLRW chicks will be arriving...and my DBF noticed at the top of my tab bar just this evening. this is how it went:
DBF: "what's that?"
Me: (chicken ethusiast/lover)-- "it's a date ticker."
DBF: "what's happening on the 28th?"
ME: (i open the tab that the ticker is on an scroll up to the top where it reads: Baby Chicks Arrive)
DBF: laughing, laughing, and still more laughing
ME: WHAT!!!!????!!!! I only have four weeks to get my brooder ready!!!!!
my case and point...i really appreciate that i can get on here and know that i'm not the only one really excited about new baby chicks. so much so that i have a date ticker to tell how much time exactly i have to get ready for them. Some people just don't know how much we love our chickens, and some of them happen to be our SO!ok i'm done ranting!![]()
everyone have a good night and keep ur chickies warm!

Sometimes just blood streaks is a new layer. Look at the vent.
If it helps track a hatch its a great tool!www.timeanddate.com/countdown/create i created just a generic ticker but they have a few themes, not very many and nothing with a chicken on it

I had the shots 2-3 years 3x a week back of my arms. it worked!
SOOOO glad she is ok!!!FALSE ALARM ~ So, I spent around two hours preparing a bedroom with the kennel cage, etc. etc. Thought of everything. It was perfect. I changed into an old (clean) sweatshirt to give Adeline her bath, etc. I brought her in and looked at her vent. LOOKED FINE. No prolapse, no redness. Good News! I trimmed some of her fluff and applied coconut oil anyway. Then I decided to go ahead and check Bonbon. She looked fine, but I trimmed a little hard poop of her fluff. I guess that's a downside of too much fluff. The poop under their perch looked fine. I'll certainly check them over tomorrow.
At least I got to see Daft Punk perform with Pharrell, Nile Rodgers, and Stevie Wonder on the Grammys.
CRSelvey ~ Bloomington has a new Rural King. I always suggest stopping in when my DH is driving, but he always misses the turn off! lol
Be careful driving if the school is delayed due to WEATHER!
SallyinIndiana ~ I was just teasing you about being surrounded by granola types-- I've seen die-hard granola types succumb to donuts!
HouseKat ~ Luckily my allergies haven't been as bad as they've been during some periods of my life. When my son still lived here, he tried a gluten-free diet for sinus problems (2 surgeries), so DH and I were on the diet, too. We followed all of the rules, but after two months, none of us felt any different in general. I know people who have really been helped by that diet while others aren't affected. I'm glad it worked for you! Btw, did you get your shed/coop?![]()

chick rookie ~ You have a beautiful, healthy looking flock and a great place to have all of your animals!
jchny~ I didn't realize you lost WeeWee!! I know you mentioned her in a post the other day, but I guess I didn't realize it. I'm so sorry!(Re Racin Chickins Jersey Giant)
Sometimes its something internal, and you will just never know why.![]()
Her size and development tells me that may have been the case too.
JG's are a very slow maturing bird, and am betting a heritage bred will be slower yet.
I have had some outwardly vibrant healthy birds do that same thing. Most recent was my only Brown Chinese hen WeeWee.
She was a true pet. That was a very painful, heartbreaking loss to the entire family. I still have no clue why.
Loved your pictures!

Thank you. She was just precious. I think she had internal problems but do not have a clue what happened.
No impaction in her crop. No sign of anything wrong. Just goneI have kept a lot of geese. She was just unmistakably precious..![]()
She will be remembered and missed horribly.
Paddy passed away the same day. We do not know why but the 2 always stayed together.
I suspect both had got into something bad, a plant? Paddy was our first gosling hatched.
This all happened while I was ill from the cows.
Painful experience for all of us as the 2 were probably the most loved here!
Its taken me this long to even talk about them. My WeeWee was a true pet.
Geese are not nearly as messy as ducks, and definitley eat less.
We are debating the pekin, very high feed volume with them!
They are enjoyable and so funny to watch. But costs need to be compared...
I may not have them much longer.
There's a KK in Clarksville now, so maybe there's one even closer to you. No need to do something crazy like go to KY!Dunkin Donuts and the grocery store bakeries managed to squeeze the actual krispy Kreme shop near us into closing.
