Welcome! I'm in Georgetown. I'm new to chix but I'm sure some of our Hoosier BYCers have probably already helped you out!hi, I'm in S. In., near Louisville.
Just read Carol Deppe's book "The Resilient Gardener and have fallen for her description of the Holderread Anconas.
I'd love to start an Ancona flock from someone local - anyone have some?

So sweet!!!! Are the Orps LF or Bantams? They look very near th same age but are larger somewhat. You've got me anxious to get my Silkies from Brad!!! Lol I already have their coop and run ready for them and it's nearly a month away!!! LolAnnouncement: My two new English Orpington chicks from Kiniska joined my three Silkie chicks from bradselig!!! e I had the pleasure of finally meeting Kiniska and her DH today!!! I am so thankful to be the proud owner of her two chicks that hatched from her hen. I need to look up when the hatch was because I kept forgetting to ask! When I got home, I re-did the large dog kennel for their brooder since I could tell that the 40 gal. aquarium was already too small for the silkies from bradselig. I put the orps in the kennel first, and then added the silkies so it wasn't like the silkies' space was invaded (I'm thinking of the method for dogs and cats- haha). The orps stood still statues while the curious silkies looked them over and softly pecked them (probably wondering if they were real!) The dark orp stood in front of the splash orp. Within a few minutes they were eating around the feeder together like old friends! (low-res youtube link below) After I got the chicks settled, I went outside with my hens for two hours. When I came back in, the chicks were in a pile sleeping. So sweet! My son, Max, (age 27) and his GF came over for dinner and they loved holding them to help them get used to people. I've been watching for the reviews from this thread. Right near the end, one guy talks about why he likes the eco-glow better. But there are several people that are going to review them once they have their chicks.Still need to buy a brooder warmer. Think I am going to try that heatplate from Premiere1, even though no one seems to have tried it yet. It seems like a good alternative to EcoGlow and after shipping saves about $15.
