Lavender is a large fowl Cochin. Does yours have feathers on it's legs? It's a cochin if it does, If it doesn't it's probably an Orpinton.
I didn't see the legs in the pic to see the feathers... she must be Orpinton. that was suggested by some people, but yours is the first one I have seen that could be mine's twin... lol
I use an dog create, the wire kind, my computer wont load it today but I have pic's her on this thread. will see if I can find them and will give you a link ??? maybe??? but it is working great my chicks are 4 weeks now and it is still working out great. I have plastic sheeting across the bottom and 1/2 way up the sides and back and a 1/3 up the front. that keep the bedding off the floor.

Spent two hours outside securing my run! Fingers crossed I think it is totally Starling proof!!! I put chicken wire inside the chain link all the way around the sides, and the bird netting inside the chain link on top. The bird netting was a lot easier to work with on top. It was not too bad out there, 26 degrees and sunny. It felt downright warm after the last two days!!! I'm glad it is done and I hope it works. I also spread hay over the snow outside and gave them a flock block and some scratch. It was nice to see them outside again! It has been a few weeks since they have spent any time outside! Now that the birds have found me, will they continue to be an issue once Spring hits? If so I have to worry about a pop door option for free ranging since I don't want to close the chickens completely away from the water and nest boxes when they are out. I have several building projects planned for the Spring and already placed a flower order! I can't wait until I can be outside!!!
Mr. Chewie (LF Cochin) was a champ and stood outside on one foot, chatting up a storm the entire time I worked
The kids. My heated waterer broke last week (I hate this winter) so I had to put a heated horse bucket out there, but Margo the sassy EE (the cream one) is too short to use it so she needs a stool

Woo hoo no wild birds! Well, I went back out to check a couple hours later and two sparrows had managed to find a tiny hole in the corder where I hadn't stapled well enough. I saw where they made their exit and put some more staples. I am feeling pretty good about the situation!

well pooo I cant get pic's to load... I hung pop cans from every place I could hang them close enough that they would hit together and make noise and swing in all the open places birds could get in through, and plastic bags like Walmart bags ect... about 2 ft from the top of the feeders, had to put old lids that I didn't have containers for in the bags for A LITTLE bit of weight. the chickens were wondering wtheck, but then didn't pay them any mine at all. I just hope the birds don't gt used to it...
