We have pigeons. My daughter shows them in 4-H and open shows. Seems like alot of people like them for pets.they are pretty and there is alot of different breeds. pic of my daughters pigeons

My dogs have turned into muddy pigs. I am so happy the ice is gone, but mud up to my ankles isn't much fun.
I know, my dogs keep tracking it in. But the ducks and geese like it !!

Two cool things:

My buff laced polish finally laid her first egg! She was in a recovery coop because she was being picked on, and I found it yesterday morning. I haven't been getting any white eggs, so this was a nice change.

And I was given a Brinsea Ovascope for candling eggs. It is fantastic! The details you can see are unbelievable. I had to remind myself to stop looking and put the eggs back in the incubator. I'm going to try to take a few pics through the scope tonight and see if I can post them.

I'm contemplating placing an order for pullets soon with Strombergs. There's a minimum of 25 chicks before April and also a breed minimum of 5. The breeds I'm thinking of are speckled sussex, blue laced red wyandotte, mottled java, salmon favorelle and California white. I think I may only keep about 3 of each though. If I do get an order placed in the next couple weeks would any of you be interested in the extra pullets?
Do you know how many weeks out it would be before you get them? I would really like a Salmon Faverolle if I could coordinate getting her at the same time as a couple of others I'd like.

I have a long wishlist but I can only squeeze it into about 4, maybe six chicks. This year I'm also hoping to get a Buckeye (hopefully from LAM), a Black Copper Marans, an Orpington (not sure what kind), a Swedish Flower, and a Welsummer. EE's are always welcome around here too!

That sounds very interesting. I would feel more comfortable if I had something like that for a foot bath type thing.
I feel really rude sometimes, but customers, even friends, I rarely let anyone in my coops.
Here is a link to their page: http://www2.dupont.com/Virkon_S/en_GB/index.html. I know its important to clean everything well, but its just in my nature to mistrust things made by companies like Dupont. I wish there were something more natural I could use, but from all of my reading, this is the only one that specifies Marek's.

Hope it goes well !!

I remember seeing this one at the fair. It was so amazing in person, just gorgeous! My kids and I spent a long time trying to get a look at its face because it often seemed to be turning away from people...not that I blame it from being crowd shy.

Today is just a little crazy. I am not kidding that last night may have been the worst night of sleep in the history of sleep. It was comical how bad..

My whole family has been trying to get over a sinus cold for the last few weeks. Our two youngest ended up with sinus/ear infections. They both got antibiotics and seemed to be on the mend, but now for some reason some of us are now sick with upset stomachs. I was so excited yesterday when my little girl finally went to school. Last night I go to bed and she wakes me up at two by getting sick all over my bed...GROSS.

So we take showers, get into her bed.. Almost asleep...little Max (recovering from surgery) comes to get me because he wants outside...almost asleep... thunder and lightening start...almost asleep... son wakes up...almost asleep...water softener kicks in and wakes son up again...almost asleep...storm comes AGAIN...sleep...alarm goes off to get kids to school...is anyone going to school today???? I have no idea because I can't think.

My DH is having the most important week of his career right now and he was also up all night. I think we met in the hallway around 5 am just laughing because we were so tired and there was no hope in sight. This parenting gig is so not for the wimpy! I am so looking forward to the weekend

. I know I'm whining, but I just want to let you know if I send out anything truly crazy later on today, you will know what happened. I'm just a little kookier than usual today.

Thank goodness all of my chickens are healthy because with one cat, one dog, and all family members on medicine right now, I need alarms to remember who takes what when!

Hey Indianapolis folks!(any lurkers out there?)
Do any of you have chicks for sale? I have a couple day olds coming and I would really like to brood a few more if I'm going to go through the whole set up.
I wanted to check here, before hitting CL.

He was champion pigeon. He needed to molt in this pic
Here is the pic I took of him last summer. I remember being amazed that such a bird existed. We looked him up as soon as we got home.

Here is a pic of the "frankenbrooder" we came up with last year. The floor was covered with heavy plastic, then under the roosts and the water we had lids from bins to make the cleanup faster. It wasn't until much later on that I figured out the sand and nipple water bottles as a better combo for us. I still can't believe they were in this getup for so long.
