INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

you know it really irk;s me to no end when people refuse to learn. Or when some people "that say they know more then others " are flat RUDE !!!! If they know o much , then they should know how to educate without being FLAT RUDE!!!! I mean really, DID THEY TAKE THEIR FIRST BREATH OF LIFE KNOWING ALL THERE IS TO KNOW ABOUT CHICKENS???? I DON'T THINK SO!!!!
To some of us our chickens are out pets, friends, kids and so on, we are not into them for points or to make money. If you are great but have respect for those of us that JUST LOVE OUR CHICKENS. And BREEDERS: I understand that you are trying to better the breed, that's great too, but a mutt can be just as important to a person as the true bread chicken is to you. And EVERYONE starts someplace!! NO ONE is born knowing all!!!!! So why be So rude to newbies that they stop coming to this site for help or just to SHOW OFF THE BIRD OR BIRDS THEY LOVE?

Ok all, I think I'm done and I'm sorry if I offended anyone was not my intent. the Indiana site is the best. People here are polite and very friendly and helpful. I think I just need to stay away from them other places!!!! I just had to get that off my chest before I exploded. I feel so sorry for all the newbies I see getting treated like they are Dumb!! and get chased off BYC completely due to the rudeness, I'm new here and I have already seen that 3 newbies have just left saying that they could get dumped on by non-chicken people and didn't need to come here to get it too. It's just sad. Too bad all the sites cant be like this one.
Sorry I said I was done didn't I. ok for real I'm done now.
I must have woke up on the wrong side of the bed today.

Good morning all, hope you have a fantabulious day

My alpine doe gave birth to 2 kids today, both bucklings. She is not doing well and milk has not dropped :/
I have both kids in the house on the bottle. Very concerned for my doe. She appears to have injured a front leg.
Shadow is a very calm and gentle girl, will try to milk her tomorrow so the babies get colostrum.
Way behind on our thread. will try to catch up later.

Sorry to hear about your doe, hope she pulls out of it!

congrats on the kids. I don't know much about goats. But humans can take up to 5-7 days for milk to come in. I'm sure an injury could delay any immediate milk coming as well. I hope your doe gets better too.

I hope your alpine doe starts doing better. Congrats on the bucklings

We are down to 1 BPR egg left to hatch!! 5 RIR's and 3 BPR's are out of their shells and doing good! Just one more to go. Fingers crossed for the last one.

Been lurking this site for over a year. I started with chickens last year, raising RIRs for eggs. Now I have ISA Browns, RIRs, Buff Orpingtons, and Cornish X. Will be adding in some decoration birds for my wife with an assortment of Crescent tops and banties. Looking to add some Easter Eggers, Welsummers, and/or Marans. Will also be adding a couple turkeys come May. Overall, I'm looking at having ~100+ birds. Half will be egg layers. The other half decor and meat.

We got our chicks yesterday. 11 of them...then my husband (who DID NOT want chickens) went to town and came home with 6 more haha. I have one little chick though that has pasted up a few times and looks a bit smaller than the rest. She is still eating and drinking and is just as active as the rest though. Any tips for the chicken newbie on how to help her?

My personal preference is to use a little cal manna powder and mix with water (very diluted) and either get her I drink it on her own or give it to her by syringe. Really all of them could have it, it won't hurt them. I just think it easier to pull the one aside. Or their is always electrolytes. You can get save a chick at most farm stores. Some people have all there chicks on that until they are 4-8 weeks old

Thanks, I do already have the save a chick electrolytes in their water, but I might try to find some cal manna powder tomorrow if it happens again.
