INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I lost a Jersey Giant hen in similar fashion. I went into the coop one day and just found her laying limp on her side. She couldn't stand on her own. At the time, I worked for a vet, so I took her in and ran a couple of fecal samples on her. She had a nasty parasite - sorry I can't remember the name of it at the moment. Anyway, I gave her some meds and it took care of the parasite, but she was never able to regain control of her legs and I had to put her down. She was not quite 4 months old and just about old enough to start laying. Made me sick.

I was going through hatching withdrawal when we had that break in the weather in November, so I nabbed a couple of eggs and threw them in the incubator. One was an egg from a mille fleur d'uccle hen fertilized by a blue splash silkie roo. Here are the results:

Bought 10 Welsummers and lost 4 of them. They were perfectly healthy and after 2 days they look real bad. Dirty, raw heads, just bad. Any idea what what would cause this?

Hi to all!
My husband and I are brand new to chickens. We have talked about it for quite some time and just took the 'plunge' yesterday so this is all very new to us. I wanted to bring home every baby chick in the store...but my husband said 'no' and I thought better of it and decided on 4 each of 6 different varieties! (Told you we took a plunge) We live in rural parke county in Indiana and look forward to linking up with like minded ppl and eager to learn all there is to know! So excited! Any helpful advice is much welcomed!

So my post about crappy people on the threads is number 1 for the day and number 2 for the week on the highest rated posts. I hope it doesn't get me kicked off BYC lol!
Sorry

Well not a one of my partridge brahmas hatched! I'm blaming the power outage. They were internally pipped, but never made it out. Now I need to decide whether I want to pursue trying hatching eggs again or just buy chicks. I'm already out so much money on these stupid birds lol. I just out some light brahma eggs into lockdown. Hope I have better luck with them.

Were those the blues you mentioned earlier? What a sucky outcome.
