INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Welcome!  I get my first babies in May, too.  Originally I thought I would get guineas only because I live in the woods and want them to eat ticks.  We'll see if I get guineas at all.

Some people say guinea are too loud, but mine aren't too bad, they even come great me when I come outside or drive up. I call em "the boys" I think I have maybe one or two females

How do you post pictures? :/

Thanks, I like them allot. They are Partridge, I got them from Brad.

Ok my mind is made up, Garden netting is going up this year. Thanks

Good glad to hear it will grow back, Thought maybe she lost them because she is a EE.

Sorry about your hen, very pretty, what a shame

ChickCrazed= Sorry about your hen, I did quote you but it didn't show up.

I cant remember who it was needing a BR roo... but it mine turns out to be a Roo you are welcome to him, if all the " pullets " that I think are Roo's actually are I will be needing to rehome some, will have way too many. They are not show birds, I got them from RK.
No, a chick that starts with a beard should always have one. I have never had one lose a beard. I forgot to tell you this though, it was likely another chick ate its beard, but you may also want to check for lice and mites just to be safe.

After the weighing of eggs I've done for this hatch most of your average LF are going to run about 55-70 grams and my bantam Cochins weighed in at most 37grams and Silkies about the same some even a bit larger than that so I would say bantam eggs are about half the size of the LF.. We love to use them as hardboiled snacks or in salads. They are wonderful bitesized treats. Adorable deviled too.
Do you happen to know what the grams convert to in terms of egg size (small, medium, large, etc? I have been making any eggs I don't sell into hard boiled too as they are perfect for snack size!

They do free range ..no pens here but what I have for separating egg layers and an AM roo from my Marans. The bantys all free range too. The daughter of missing mamma is in the garage because she's got a thing for laying her eggs in there. My peahen adores her too and I have my Pea pair in there for the time being so they are quite the little odd trio!! Lol

Wooohooo for you on the extra space! Congrats! !
That sounds like such a cute trio! Would love to see a pic! :)

OK -- everyone's positive recommendations have convinced me to try the light brahmas & probably some bantams. Then again, did I expect anything different coming from this group of addicts? I just can't imagine anyone posting a comment saying, "You really don't want to get that breed of chicken" or "You have enough different breeds already"!!
