I like to stay away from plastic - especially with ff since it has such a high acid content that I don't like leaching the plastic into the feed so...Question for the feed fermenters. What kind of feeder do you use? I'd really like the chickens to not walk in their food or knock it over. I've seen all the standard feeders at TSC, but I wanted to ask if there's any particular one that does better with mush.
I pick up pyrex at resale shops or garage sales...or sometimes new as it's pretty cheap. That is a flower box I got from Menards (sorry Brad) that those are sitting in. It just happened to fit 2 of them.
I also use the pie pans during the winter on a warmer/heater base and throw some outside as well. To keep them from standing in the pie pan last winter, I inverted a small pyrex storage container in the center to make them stand all around it.
You can see the upturned pyrex in this photo below. Keeps them from standing in it. And the pyrex is heavy enough that it doesn't just tip over if they do.
