INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Question for the feed fermenters. What kind of feeder do you use? I'd really like the chickens to not walk in their food or knock it over. I've seen all the standard feeders at TSC, but I wanted to ask if there's any particular one that does better with mush.
I like to stay away from plastic - especially with ff since it has such a high acid content that I don't like leaching the plastic into the feed so...

I pick up pyrex at resale shops or garage sales...or sometimes new as it's pretty cheap. That is a flower box I got from Menards (sorry Brad) that those are sitting in. It just happened to fit 2 of them.

I also use the pie pans during the winter on a warmer/heater base and throw some outside as well. To keep them from standing in the pie pan last winter, I inverted a small pyrex storage container in the center to make them stand all around it.

You can see the upturned pyrex in this photo below. Keeps them from standing in it. And the pyrex is heavy enough that it doesn't just tip over if they do.

O my I had another delightful day after a hectic evening with games. .senior pics.. etc.. to find at first made me scratch my head in wonder where this little one came from! After looking her over more closely my 8yr old asks if it has 5 toes and sure enough it did! Lol my first offspring from my Salmon Fav girl. What a cutie! The chick looks like it has a little faint of splash on her back. Can't wait to see how she grows out.

Oh my god. I've got a second blrw with a distended belly and a puffed out vent. The first one was my runt and didn't make it. It's vent was all bloody. This one's vent isn't bloody just puffed out. It's belly is soft, I couldn't discern any blockage and I couldn't squeeze a stool out, though after I put it back down it had a firm stool. I started corid on everyone cause I noticed some bloody stools and some that looked pretty loose, but this doesn't sound like cocci that I've read about? It sorta sounds like ascites but what are the chances of two at once just suddenly swelling up?

can you get good pics of what you're specifically referring to? I'm not sure I follow what you're trying to describe?

Well that's the belly being distended. If you look the baby isn't holding it's wings correctly because it's belly is so big. It just happened maybe in the last 36 hours. But I will try for more photos.

Here is a updated pic of the chick I helped to hatch today along with the chick that hatched while I was helping the other one out. She's still looks pretty weak, but she's moving around pretty good. There's one more that hatched while I was gone tonight. There are still 8 eggs to go yet. A couple look like they might have really small pips but I can't tell for sure. Tomorrow will be day 23. Okay here's another question, can I candle them tomorrow if I don't see any pips to see if they are still alive or do I just leave them alone for another day or two?

Very off topic but had to share these... These beautiful young ladies are MY Grand daughters! The first two are Rachel and Brittany they are Seniors and both are recipients of full ride scholarships one to Glenville State the other to WVU. Tierra is a Junior and (along with her sister and cousin) is a National Honor Society Member throughout her High school years. I'm so proud!
