We are using Frontline as a prevention. It was really easy to apply to the skin under the wing. The sites I read siad to wash away any eggs a couple days after applying as the front line would kill them and make the washing job easier. I did not find eggs on any of my treated chickens but I did notice more feathers in the breeding pen.Lice Advice Please
Two weeks ago I noticed that my crazy RIR hen, Nene, was looking a little raggedy. I checked her over and determined that she had Fowl Lice (thank goodness it's not like people lice!) We had some Sevin dust in the garage from pre-chickens, so I used one of the methods from my Chicken Health book. I put some in a trash bag, then put Nene in the bag with just her head exposed. I didn't "Shake and Bake," lol, but I kinda rubbed the powder around on her through the plastic bag -- under her wings and over her vent. (I was one who always frowned upon using Sevin, so I felt like an old, experienced farmhand using this method). I was surprised when I put Nene on the ground and she didn't shake. I noticed for the next 24 hours she was more laid back and didn't act like herself. Then she bounced back. I am supposed to re-apply it now that it's been two weeks. One question is that there wasn't a measured amount of Sevin specified to use. Does anyone know how much to use? I've noticed the past few days that she needs to have it applied again, and I've also noticed that her feathers fall out easily. Is that common or is she molting, too? If I pick her up, feathers easily fall out and if she shakes a bunch of feathers fly off. Nene is acting normal and eating/drinking normally. I went to RK today because I thought I'd try Ivermectin instead of Sevin, but it came in liquid and I just didn't feel like I knew enough about it or how to use it. Comments or Advice, anyone? Thanks!
Soooo...
What is that stuff treated with?
(PS: I'm looking forward to coyote-killing chickens.... not to mention peace in the Middle East)
