INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

.
Two of my favorite chicks can definitely tell over the past couple days what color the grey ones are turning out to look like in fact all of them are really starting to feather out
Are you sure you have 2 different chicks? Perhaps the first chick fell in the pile of ashes from Hoosiercheetah's BBQ fire!

And this weekend I'm going to try to build them a coop of sorts and a run maybe, since my adults are 100 percent free range basically.. and p.s. I use propane so none of that Charcoal ash around here :) I can cook anything on it better than almost anyone I know who uses charcoal wouldn't wanna disappoint hank hill anyhow

Lice Advice Please
Two weeks ago I noticed that my crazy RIR hen, Nene, was looking a little raggedy. I checked her over and determined that she had Fowl Lice (thank goodness it's not like people lice!) We had some Sevin dust in the garage from pre-chickens, so I used one of the methods from my Chicken Health book. I put some in a trash bag, then put Nene in the bag with just her head exposed. I didn't "Shake and Bake," lol, but I kinda rubbed the powder around on her through the plastic bag -- under her wings and over her vent. (I was one who always frowned upon using Sevin, so I felt like an old, experienced farmhand using this method). I was surprised when I put Nene on the ground and she didn't shake. I noticed for the next 24 hours she was more laid back and didn't act like herself. Then she bounced back. I am supposed to re-apply it now that it's been two weeks. One question is that there wasn't a measured amount of Sevin specified to use. Does anyone know how much to use? I've noticed the past few days that she needs to have it applied again, and I've also noticed that her feathers fall out easily. Is that common or is she molting, too? If I pick her up, feathers easily fall out and if she shakes a bunch of feathers fly off. Nene is acting normal and eating/drinking normally. I went to RK today because I thought I'd try Ivermectin instead of Sevin, but it came in liquid and I just didn't feel like I knew enough about it or how to use it. Comments or Advice, anyone? Thanks!
We are using Frontline as a prevention. It was really easy to apply to the skin under the wing. The sites I read siad to wash away any eggs a couple days after applying as the front line would kill them and make the washing job easier. I did not find eggs on any of my treated chickens but I did notice more feathers in the breeding pen.

Here is a great video, It is not mine, but I did watch it before using frontline on the chickens. I chose to put all of the drops in one place, under the wing. But I can see the advantage of multiple locations.

Editing to say we applied the frontline as we caught the chickens outside.

What is that stuff treated with?

(PS: I'm looking forward to coyote-killing chickens.... not to mention peace in the Middle East)

Nothing. Check the bag to make sure, because there are different manufacturers, and I can't guarantee all of them are al natural. But the one on Dirty Jobs didn't add anything at all, and I haven't bought any that had anything added to it. It's just half-burned hardwood.

They look great! Ive always love the dorking breed. Just what i need, another breed! Lol

Either tonight or tomorrow the legbar eggs go into lockdown!

Come to the Dorking side... :D They're so sweet, and I've heard a lot of good things about them! You know you want them...

:weee Can't wait for the legbars!! :D That's another breed I've wanted for some years now! I'm checking off a lot of 'must haves' this year!

Speaking of new birds, since she was officially officially named last night, I thought I would introduce y'all to Tilly! :)

Tilly was Leahs mom's Miss Gray. I brought her home this Sunday after a pleasant (and quite educational!) meeting with her previous owner. She's a doll, such a sweet bird, and she's healing well from the previously mentioned hawk attack. I'm hoping she finds her place in my flock! :D

Ah, and the woods. I haven't taken a picture of the woods since Sunday, what with the chicks and Tilly and everything else keeping me busy, and I so regret it! Look at the huge difference in leaf growth between Sunday and today! Oh, well.

Oh, and one last thing. Is the date for the great Indiana Chickenfest set yet? I need to know ASAP so that I can make arrangements for everyone and everything while I'm gone that day!
