INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Seemsblike I heard someone say that chickens like to have a radio. Or I might have dreamed that.

So, in the interest of not freaking out, I have a question. It's normal for chickens to loose a few feathers now and then, right? How many is too many?

hoosiercheetah ~ You might have read about playing a radio to keep raccoons away. I had a radio playing (medium volume) in the garage near the coop for a few weeks after I saw two raccoons near the coop in February. I guess it worked -- knock on wood-- because I haven't seen them since.

LADIES and GENTLEMEN!

I'd like you to meet the latest additions to my flock!!!

Gus and Jules, they will be going to Jchny2000 next week. Its bittersweet, but I know they are going to a great home!

Hi Kab, I'd say they lucked out in the home department. Your cochins look really nice! I just wanted to thank you for the link on floating the eggs. As today is the fourth day, I thought I'd be taking her eggs from her, but after floating them, I can see that they are probably viable. One of them looks like its rocking, so I guess we will just wait longer. My hen didn't make up her mind where she wanted to sit, so it was hard to keep track of which eggs she was on for the first week. I finally moved her to her own place and that's probably how this happened.

I put my other chicks out with the big birds last night for a trial run and it went pretty good, so today I let them all out together again and tossed around two bales of hay to keep them more focused on playing than each other. So far it seems to be working. I even found a few of the little ones dust bathing in the run (which is open during the day to the garden).

Happy Memorial Day Weekend!!

Finally got some photos of the Swedish Flower Hen babies today. If I have my numbers right they were 2 wks old last Thursday.

Put them out in a little pen on the grass today...first time in the "great outdoors".

Could this little one be wanting to crow already

Hard to tell the blacks apart in the photos. I'll have to band one of them.

I think this is Black 1

And this is black 2

Little brown.

Everyone on high alert....first time seeing beyond their cardboard box boarders.

For perspective. Half of it is covered for shade.
