INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

<I'm cross posting to the Buy/Sell/trade forum as well>

I have 5 juvenile roos that need re-homing or they become dinners. (I live in Rocky Ripple in Indpls which allows no roosters)

1 is a Basque Hen roo - Black Walnut Farm in PA line.
3 are Breeder quality Buckeyes - Lay line via Hidden Creek farm here in Indiana.

Please PM me is you are interested.

Okay, another question on the eggs under Margie. It's day 23. There are no pips, none of the eggs are peeping or moving around at all, no signs of hatching. I was going to wait until day 25, but today when I checked under Marge for any signs of hatching, I noticed an unusual odor coming from the nest. Not like rotten eggs, but just not right, either... I don't know how to describe it. Anyway, is this a sign that I should get the eggs out from under her? I don't think I could single out the stinky ones easily, but I can wait until tonight to candle again and take out the clear ones at least. I definitely don't want one of them to explode under her or make a mess in my coop! :sick

And the bossy hens are great for teaching the small young roosters how to dance or run for their lives.
I definitely need a few more bossy hens around then......
I have a black star hen you can have if you want to help me pick out my CCL breeders this winter. Its a great deal get the bossy hen now, do the breed selection later. Even if you back out, I won't want the hen back by then as I'll be in flock reduction mode.

That's for sure - our first eggs will be the most expensive 1 dozen eggs we have ever had!

I was at a meeting this morning. We were supposed to introduce ourselves and say something we are passionate about. I said Chickens. Yep, I be the crazy chicken lady! Fortunately I am married to a crazy chicken guy so it works out well!

I can't even imagine what my life would be like if I married a chicken (or dog or horse) enabler. The only thing stopping me right now is my single income and my single pair of arms doing all the work! I'd be dangerous with a dangerous enabler man in my life!!! I need to find me a grouch to keep me in check!

Chickenfest suggestion: How about we start a new thread for "What I am bringing" this would be for food, birds, anything to sell or trade etc. Or maybe just an "Indiana Chickenfest 2014" Thread just for any and all communication for Chickenfest.

I was just thinking it might simplify things - if we want to see who is bringing what then it would be all in one place and we would not have to wade through a couple weeks of the Indiana BYCers thread when we need to find something.

I don't want to step on anyones toes, so I didn't just go head and start it, and I am fine if you think this is a bad idea!

See, we are the single incomers too for all practical purposes, my very partime job doesn't bring in enough to really count! So that is really the only thing holding us back. Probably a good thing, we love dogs, but only have one (our honorary roo). DD would love to have a horse or two, however out location would prevent that. Goats, we both want those. We really should live on a farm. I seriously could come home from Chickenfest with a dozen more chickens but I don't have the money to do that!

Now I am reminded that we have not gotten up to see you yet! I really want to do that soon. Better go DH need the computer.

Or a public google doc. I can set one up if everyone likes the idea.

Go for it. your suggestion makes perfect sense. And it will keep us from cluttering up the main thread with CF specific info. Just post a link on the main thread after you create it.

Thanks for the offer, but I'm already in flock reduction mode. However, I will gladly volunteer to come help you pick out your breeders. I'm also looking for a person or two to come over to my place when I evaluate my own breeders. I'm not the most knowledgeable, and it never hurts to have more than one pair of eyes.
