So I'm planning to do hardware cloth and t posts for my run and bury the cloth. How far do you think I should go? We have foxes on our property for sure, saw one the other night when I went to feed. Also coons opposums and skunks. No coyotes.

I think the literature recommends a foot down and a foot out. If you just go down, the predators will dig until they get under it. If you also shelf it out , they'll figure there's no getting through, and give up. It's more trenching than I've done at my place in the city, but if you know you have fox, it's probably worth the effort. You might even want to go 2' down and 2' out.

LOL you would be surprised!  They are LUCKY they are cute!!!! It is all that they have going for them some days!  Small bad bit a kid last week (he was a rescue so I don't know what his background was, but methinks he is not going to be safe around kids) and big bad keeps shredding the lattice under my deck to try to slaughter bunnies.  LOL they are pretty rotten.

Beautiful birds, and cute pups! We've got several rescue dogs ourselves. The most recent is a little yorkiepoo we got from a shelter. She loved us and was cuddly immediately, totally adorable. Turns out she thinks all other people are evil, apparently. Growls and snaps at them all. No way would I let a kid near her. Our vet think she was about 10 months old when we got her...I assume she didn't have a great life prior to us. But she is just so adorable with us.

Hmm guess I'll be doing a lot of digging tomorrow lol. I have a lot of cement blocks. I've considered putting g those around the perimeter and staking them down. But still bury the fence at least a foot down as well.

Mmhm...nope. I'm in Crawfordsville. Its not that far from were I'm at so its still in the area. Maybe I'll ask my mom or sister where its at. I only went there, to the little farm place once to pick up my sister who went with them to take care of the pretty critters.

Oh yeah, another bit of news from the farm here, we got three new kittens! Our cat had three little calicoes! The dad was a new stray brown tabby who showed up. Soda, the mother, is white with orange tabby spots. They are so adorable and tumble around everywhere. The birthing process was also very interesting to watch. I'll have to get pics of the cats and my chicks up soon. My five(I think) cockerels are getting their tail and sickle feathers in. I've seen several flare ups and stare downs going on lately but nothing major.

Hum cool! I'm not familiar with who would be in Montgomery county. Is be interested to know where that is.

I don't think I've posted pictures of my babies here in a couple weeks so I thought I'd stop in and post their most recent pictures here. These are from yesterday when the little ones turned 10 weeks old.

Gotta have my cuddle time with Elly. Kit-kit joined in as well (she was just peeking in the first picture ). Elly's such the cuddler, I'm barely seated before she's in my lap. Kit-kit takes her time, but she always joins us eventually, and she makes this adorable trilling sound when I hug her. Love my Dorkings!

Georgette the clumsy Black Copper Marans--she is such a klutz! And she tries to eat the velcro off my clothing if there is any.

Louise the dainty BCM, always the lady. She has the most soulful, deep eyes and such a dignified personality!

Mabel was being so photogenic yesterday. She's the worrier of the group, so it was nice to see her relaxed for once.

Here are my babies from Brad, about 11 weeks old. Poppy the Cream Legbar. She is so pretty in person! She's the shyest of the bunch, but still comes over and lets me pet her sometimes.

Grumpy face Vi always looks so severe. She's such a sweetie, though! BUT, she can be a bulldozer sometimes, too! If she wants her lap time, she will get her lap time! She practically knocked Elly off my lap earlier today when she decided it was her turn.

And their 'big sister' Tilde the Swedish Flower Hen. I think she's around 10 months old now, but I don't remember for sure. She was grumpy because it was rainy.

So...do you have Miss Matilda Gray in with the kids? How's that going? (Her b-day was on the Sunday before Labor Day last year.)

I spent some time out with the kids, chickens, and children today. While I was out there I got looking at my growout pens and realized that tonight was the perfect night to change the birds around. Before today they had been sorted by hatch dates with all hatches in a 3 week period in one pen, then the next 3 weeks in another. Now for the most part my pens are sorted by breed with the culled pullets in the layer growout pen and culled roosters in the duck pen.

I also confirmed that I hatched out way more roosters than pullets this season. We keep pulling roosters from the layer pen and yet every time I go to add more pullets to the layers we pull out a few more roosters. I must have at least 20 younger roosters growing out in the duck run and another 10 mixed in with the layers with another 7-10 in the free ranging flock. And we processed early early summer too. So many roosters. Dh will be processing again as soon as we get the kids settled in ~ the fence put up, the shed door side finished, and the shed painted. So 2 maybe 3 weeks down the road.
