(Sorry for the off topic all - chickens and robots, our families two obsessions! )
This morning my husband took some of the team members out to businesses to try to raise money for our team. We had a bake sale at church yesterday and raised over $200 which was great. We are hosting 2 tournaments this year and have 2 teams, so we need a field of play and 2 robots - we have one robot almost completed (thanks to our tax check!). It does take quite a bit of money but not as much as First! It is an amazing experience for the kids and my son has really found his passion. I hope it goes well tonight. Keep me posted and hope to see you at some tournaments this year. Wish we could be there the 14th - my hubby really wants to now that he knows. We'll see how his recovery goes.
A lot of people kind of ignore the robot world but there is a lot to be said for the robots. They get used in factories a lot and even in space. The money required for your son to learn how to make a robot and how to use one is money well spent imo.
The children's museum has a presentation in the planetarium about robots and going to the moon. We got to watch part of it while we were there. The few robots that we saw were very neat or cool looking with great ideas behind them. The description below came from their website.
Back to the Moon—For Good
Narrated by Tim Allen, this show immerses you in the Google Lunar XPRIZE race to the Moon and the human stories of both the competition and the collaboration it inspires. Ideal for ages 9+.
hoosierchicken ~ Thanks for posting! I forwarded the article to my daughter at IU who works part-time at a group home for four autistic teens. I also signed the petition and wrote this~I saw this article in the Star yesterday. Is this anyone we know?

leslea ~ The little bantam Wheaton OEGB and Belgian Mille Fleur roos were doing more than sparring two days ago. They were constantly at it and would lock beaks-- really weird. I even tried hosing them, but it had little effect. I forgot to mention the funniest thing, though. When they were fighting, my Blue Silkie marched over tried to peck them apart. When that didn't work she jumped up over them and stomped them! It was hilarious. And it did break up the fight for a little while. They must've worked out their issues because they were doing much better yesterday.I bet it is stressful watching BonBon's babies spar. Is that sparring, you think? With the beaks?
Yes, you caught me...totally a marketing survey! The whole series looks really cute, and they're all bird-themed, so you know that is right up my alley! @EurekaChic, thanks for weighing in. M2H, I am so behind in my writing goals for the year, the last thing I need is to find another project...but that idea of a chicken sleuth series is still with me.![]()
How is [the book] Buddy?
The next time I host book club, I should fill the choices with chicken books...![]()
Poultry is released on the 8th between 6-9. If you leave your birds until the 9th they will be property of the state fair. The 9th is the celebration of the champions.
I'm glad they're working out their issues. That does sound funny.leslea ~ The little bantam Wheaton OEGB and Belgian Mille Fleur roos were doing more than sparring two days ago. "Buddy" is a true story, but so far it's been more about the author bragging about his accomplishments. I'm on page 122, and Buddy, the rooster, has only briefly been mentioned!
I make myself crazy noticing small details about my birds...weird poo...a sneeze...small scabby spot...slightly puffy eye...skittish behavior...etc. I struggle to balance rational concern with over-reacting. I would've dreamed up a dozen things that could've caused her wound! Glad she's on the healing track!MY EE hen with the wound UPDATE: Thankfully, Roadrunner didn't scratch her ear area wound today! I noticed some missing feathers on the top of her head, so I am back to my original conclusion that she was pecked in the coop by one of her "sisters" --and it isn't a case of ear mites.
Thanks for sharing pictures of the piglets. Very, very cute!
Hope all goes well with your DH surgery. We're going to the fair sometime this week, and will definitely wear our shirt and keep an eye out for others doing the same!If we make it, we will wear our shirts and hopefully see some of you there!
