By the way, is anyone on here going to the poultry show Labor Day weekend in Spencer? I am looking to start buying better quality birds than what I have and would love to meet some of you.

I like your breeding pens better than mine. I am building 5, but mine are smaller. Plus yours are closer to being done. Switch me!

Second week photos are done! Can't believe the changes in the past week. The guinea and MF are getting a lot larger and have more feathers than the silkies.

My cat decided he wanted in on the photo shoot yesterday and kept sitting on the laptop/stage. LOL

Here are the two previous weeks for comparison:

(Sorry for the off topic all - chickens and robots, our families two obsessions! )
This morning my husband took some of the team members out to businesses to try to raise money for our team. We had a bake sale at church yesterday and raised over $200 which was great. We are hosting 2 tournaments this year and have 2 teams, so we need a field of play and 2 robots - we have one robot almost completed (thanks to our tax check!). It does take quite a bit of money but not as much as First! It is an amazing experience for the kids and my son has really found his passion. I hope it goes well tonight. Keep me posted and hope to see you at some tournaments this year. Wish we could be there the 14th - my hubby really wants to now that he knows. We'll see how his recovery goes.

A lot of people kind of ignore the robot world but there is a lot to be said for the robots. They get used in factories a lot and even in space. The money required for your son to learn how to make a robot and how to use one is money well spent imo.
The children's museum has a presentation in the planetarium about robots and going to the moon. We got to watch part of it while we were there. The few robots that we saw were very neat or cool looking with great ideas behind them. The description below came from their website.
Back to the Moon—For Good
Narrated by Tim Allen, this show immerses you in the Google Lunar XPRIZE race to the Moon and the human stories of both the competition and the collaboration it inspires. Ideal for ages 9+.

I saw this article in the Star yesterday. Is this anyone we know?

hoosierchicken ~ Thanks for posting! I forwarded the article to my daughter at IU who works part-time at a group home for four autistic teens. I also signed the petition and wrote this~

When we started with chickens over two years ago, I had no idea how they'd change my life because I knew nothing about them. Chickens are fascinating to watch and to interact with. They have personalities, are smart, and make great companion pets. Chickens give me a reason to spend time outside every day, and my mental and physical health has improved.

Having autism or having a child who is autistic would be heartbreaking. Any therapy that works is a sign of hope. It would be absurd to take important and comforting pets away from this little boy. We wouldn't dream of taking away a service animal from a handicapped person, and these chickens provide an invaluable service to Anthony.
I bet it is stressful watching BonBon's babies spar. Is that sparring, you think? With the beaks?
Yes, you caught me...totally a marketing survey!

The whole series looks really cute, and they're all bird-themed, so you know that is right up my alley! @EurekaChic, thanks for weighing in. M2H, I am so behind in my writing goals for the year, the last thing I need is to find another project...but that idea of a chicken sleuth series is still with me.

How is [the book] Buddy?

The next time I host book club, I should fill the choices with chicken books...

leslea ~ The little bantam Wheaton OEGB and Belgian Mille Fleur roos were doing more than sparring two days ago. They were constantly at it and would lock beaks-- really weird. I even tried hosing them, but it had little effect. I forgot to mention the funniest thing, though. When they were fighting, my Blue Silkie marched over tried to peck them apart. When that didn't work she jumped up over them and stomped them! It was hilarious. And it did break up the fight for a little while. They must've worked out their issues because they were doing much better yesterday.

"Buddy" is a true story, but so far it's been more about the author bragging about his accomplishments. I'm on page 122, and Buddy, the rooster, has only briefly been mentioned!

I'm glad they're working out their issues. That does sound funny.

I suppose we should all aspire to one day have 122 pages of accomplishments...

Hope it improves!

MY EE hen with the wound UPDATE: Thankfully, Roadrunner didn't scratch her ear area wound today! I noticed some missing feathers on the top of her head, so I am back to my original conclusion that she was pecked in the coop by one of her "sisters" --and it isn't a case of ear mites.
I make myself crazy noticing small details about my birds...weird poo...a sneeze...small scabby spot...slightly puffy eye...skittish behavior...etc. I struggle to balance rational concern with over-reacting. I would've dreamed up a dozen things that could've caused her wound! Glad she's on the healing track!

One of the 6 piglets. They are so cute (and active!)
Thanks for sharing pictures of the piglets. Very, very cute!

If we make it, we will wear our shirts and hopefully see some of you there!
Hope all goes well with your DH surgery. We're going to the fair sometime this week, and will definitely wear our shirt and keep an eye out for others doing the same!

Cher's grown up from this:

to this:

She's a beautiful bird--but I think her head-poof is obscuring her vision. Does anyone have insight or experience that they can share with me about trimming feathers around the eyes?

I live in Demotte but not "in town". I'm sure you guys will know what that means. I have about an acre on the west side of 65. I have about 34 chickens and 9 ducks. My neighbors all get free eggs and they are all very friendly so I've never had any problems. I picked up two chicks from an assorted bantam collection at Crown Feed and Supply. Pretty sure they are roosters. I don't mind and I don't think my neighbors will either but legally where do I stand? I am having trouble wading through web pages of zoning laws. I'd love to keep them. One is a Japanese bantam and the other is a red old English game bantam. They will both look really awesome in my flock and they have plenty of girls and space to share. Are smaller bantam Roos just as loud as their larger counterparts? I think I will let my neighbors know just in case they have any problems to let me know and I can try to re-home them. I would like to have some unique roosters. I hope I can keep them. Thanks guys!

Thanks for mentioning the petition @Mother2Hens . I had missed it the first time. I went back and signed it with an additional comment. Mine was not as elegant as yours but I did mention that the chickens give people a reason to go outside. That is great for all kinds of illnesses.
