Ahh, that wonderful feeling when you've finished your homework for the day..! Anyway!

I love that first picture of her! It really shows off how brilliant their coloration is! A lot of red orange and gold!

Yeah, is it me or is it really hard to capture that color in a picture? Actually, it's not just them--seems like most of my girls with wildtype partridge-based colorations are tricky to get good pictures of! My Dorkings, my Legbar, and Violet, here, especially.

Well, that is a very grumpy face! I also take many pics of my chickens & have a folder just for those interesting expressions. Here's my grumpy hen pic. (She too is a sweetheart. The pic was just taken at a funny angle.)

I think that's an Easter-egger thing! I have a sweet, if somewhat air-headed Easter-egger that gives me the same kind of look. She actually looks quite menacing!

Congrats! The peas are precious birds. Bond with them a lot and they stay. They also do very well with turkeys, and comingle with them as their own breed. When my Dad was ill, mine went off to a neighbors and moved in. I didn't have the heart or the time to collect them, he had just lost his wife. He was enjoying them a lot. and I wasn't home so I felt they were in a better situation. I plan to add them again next spring.


I have let my moderns enjoy the dog run with my pug, Sadie when its warm out. They seem to like her, and she is comfortable with them. The splash roo is just the sweetest guy, the black hen even more so.. Love all your colors! I like the breed a lot. Very much like the OEGB but even smaller framed! My pair have become real pets.
They really are a great addition to a flock it you can tolerate the noise the first year. Young adults sure can be crazy birds!

Rocks and any foliage will help them hide.

I recently had someone tell me that I should *not try to bond with the peacocks because if they lose their fear of you, they have a tendency to become mean. I had heard exactly the opposite before that and haven't had the time to do my homework on the issue. What has been your experience? I was hoping I could baby them like I do my chickens.

I am sold on jaehorn, they are very sweet fellas. I paired them with my leghorns, and the girls are calmer with them around.

Oh, I'm so glad to hear about the Jaerhon roos I passed along to you! The roos I kept are very laid back, too - not mean at all. I really do think this is the perfect backyard flock breed. They will forage for themselves like the banty breeds, eat lighter like the banty breeds, but lay bigger eggs more like a larger breed. And they really are the sweetest birds! I just love mine! As long as I keep chickens, I will always have Jaerhons!

Your chicken reminds me of Nigel, the cockatoo on the movie Rio.

Here's the little cutie! Hopefully it's a pullet!

Oooohhhhh, it is so cute! I have six Ayam Cemani eggs in my incubator right now and I am so nervous! I am a bit concerned because when I received the eggs, they weren't very clean and had been marked up with a lot of marker, so I was afraid to do much to clean them up a bit more, thinking I would probably smear the marker and make things worse. They just went in on Sunday, so I'll be on pins and needles for the next three weeks!

Have you had any more AC hatch out since this one and how many eggs did you have in? I'll be hoping with you that you've got yourself a pullet!
