INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Oh and our water valve has frozen 4 times today!

This summer we will be bringing the bladder tank inside to the basement, not outside in an underground bunker.

It is CAAAAAREEEEEPY down there...and gross!

so question about crooked toes...so i just hatched those 16 birds and they all had straight toes...now magically a couple of them have toes that are now bent alittle like half way down the toe....weird...they were on papertowel for a bout a week and then pine shavings for the whole time now...any thoughts

Birdman I've read somewhere that too high temp during incubation can be one reason for curled toes. Maybe it was in BYC article Incubation 101.

Candy for my girls is bananas. They practically attack me when they see bananas (Ieap straight up to try to get at them before I can even peel them and break them into pieces). I think they love bananas even more than tomatoes. They're bananas for bananas (sorry, had to do it!). The more overripe they are, the more they love them. There is no fruit they don't like, but 'nanners are definitely the best.

Here is the bunch!
All 20 chirp'rs
400

We got 6 ISA, 6 white brahma, 4 RIR, 4 white leghorns, and couldn't help myself 2 EE's!!
400

Couldn't pass those two pullets!

Great looking babies - these pictures are why I can not allow myself to go to RK until I get back from Oregon next month because I can't leave DH and DS to brood new babies.

Quote: OOOOH. Golden Cuckoo Marans! I hadn't heard of them before. Made me go look them up. Now for the questions....Are they as big as the BCMs? Some pics I saw online made them look more orange barred, and some a bit darker with more grey. What do yours look like? And how do I get in line for some hatching eggs?

I've never thought of bananas. I have some going brown right now. I'll have to take them out to the pens tomorrow.

Pipping is in progress! These are the first chicks of my own breeding, so I'm excited to see what they will be like. I've NEVER had a hatch actually go to 21 days before, and these are all pullet eggs whose parents all hatched on Day 19 and 20. These will go over into Day 22. I was starting to get worried, so broke lockdown yesterday to make sure they were still alive. It's going to be a late night with me sleeping in the spare bedroom with the bator! (It was also a new incubator, which added to my concerns--you never know!)

More news tomorrow!

Good luck
I'd like a set of seeds please.  Then in a few years I could have my own tree and one for a friend too.
