Yes, the eggs were rolling around on their own, however the chicks in the incubator that have hatched are knocking into the eggs that are not yet hatched. I think one is dead, that was pipped. I see no movement at all, and I see its beak, but nothing at all.

when they first pip they rest after that for quite some time...some rest longer then others ....if your unsure just pick up the egg and with your finger just give it a small couple of taps....if it moves or chirps your good to go....if it doesnt do either it prolly shrink wrapped because of opening and closing of the incubator....wow....we just moved four more so that is a total of 15 and 7 more are pipped....right now 54 percent hatch rate....and climbing...hoping for 75....but right now we did better then the first hatch so that mean i guess we are learning...or the step up with the expensive unit made that much of a difference

this is normal...i believe they call it rocking and rolling...its just the bird trying to unzip itself and moving around the egg...i hatched out 11 so far and one is still drying off in the hatcher....also

easter is just right around the corner and everyone has heard of pysanky egg art...so i met gail a local michigan bycer and gave her close to 400 eggs....and she is to make egg art out of them...so i was telling you guys about the magazine that i was going to be in with my eggs....so here it is...check it out...im so pumped....

So the new chicks..I went to vaccinate today and I was a bit distracted for a few seconds and it led me to overlooking a vital step! Injecting the vaccine into the dilutant..(MD-Vac CFL, Mareks vaccine, live virus)

I vaccinated 8 of 10 chicks with only 3 ml of the dilutant in the vaccine! When it should have been injected into a 200 ml bottle of the dilutant before injecting into the chicks! I was a cursing mess!! I thought I was going to vomit and that the chicks were probably going to just drop dead! Keep in mind this little vile when injected into the dilutant vaccinate 1000 chicks!

I called the manufacturer and they put me through to a vet and he just chuckled (politely) and said it's probably not going to be all that bad. Even though there's no sure expectation on how they may react to it more than likely if they are healthy they may act a little off for a bit while their bodies fight a little harder but they should be fine. They are. Still just as active and eating drinking fine for about 10 hours now. Poor babies! I was crushed there for quite some time! Needless to say it's a mistake I won't make again!

I've done the vaccine on many batches of chicks and I can't believe I did it but...I did!

It's easy to lose track of what we're doing. I've forgotten which I've already done and re-vaccinated--didn't appear to hurt them.

The worst thing was when I moved. Put everything from my freezer and the spare fridge into coolers. My sis was unpacking at the new place and put all my vaccines in the freezer. About $200 worth of MD and coriza vaccines ruined.

Lots of very large cardboard boxes all lined up in a row.  Covered in plastic to help the cardboard last a bit longer and in case a water leaks as at least one always does.

Chicks start off in their very own box but the boxes get their connecting sides cut into tunnel styled doors to make a play and greet area so the various small groups of chicks become a larger group of mixed ages and breeds.  Its a big dust generator for sure.  But a gqf brooder just is not in the budget and I can watch the chicks in the boxes better too.

Only once did I start vaccinating thinking the wet spot from the swab of alcohol to the back of the neck I would know who I had given it to...well..alcohol evaporates really quickly! ! DUH! Learned that lesson too! I shake my head at myself quite often!

I'm really not that unintelligent. .I swear I am just so scatter brained..my mind is always too far ahead and jumping onto other thoughts I lose my place in the present! Sigh...

Thanks, everyone, for the kind posts and PMs. Sorry for the lack of personal response, but I did read through everything. Having a hard time with losing my Violet, she was so young and such a big sweetheart. I may have to invest in more Bielefelders. I just loved her so much and I'm really missing her.


Not having enough sleep is not helping my mood, either. But that's probably because my new alarm clock has no snooze button. Have I mentioned the alarm clock? Her name is Frou-Frou.
