INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I picked up two new waterers at TSC tonight. I liked the design the price is crazy high for a waterer but I thought I would try it.
I really like them so far and if you have seen them but didn't want pay the price imo they are pretty good.
Here they are

They run $14.99
PLEASE post how well they work out for you. I'm always on the lookout for a better waterer.

Quote: Muscovies are the quietest. They don't even quack. Their looks aren't for everyone, but when I start on waterfowl later this year, it will be Muscovies.

Sigh.....already have a broody turkey hen. At least this one will let me pull eggs out from underneath her without removing strips of skin. I was planning on building a nest house that I could block off from the others once things dry out, but oh no, she couldn't wait. Not sure what I'm going to do now. I'm pretty sure you can't move a broody turkey like you can a chicken.

I know a few of you were rooting for her, so I thought I'd let y'all know, Cubby didn't make it to her 10th birthday.

She had been wasting away for a couple weeks now, even though she was eating. I think the only reason she had been eating was because she considered what I was giving her (wetted crumbles) a treat. She stopped eating a couple days ago, which I think was the beginning of the end for her. I was able to bribe her into eating with one of her favorite foods, scrambled eggs, but I don't think there was anything to be done by that point. She was in the process of dying when I woke up this morning, very tired and disconnected. She passed away quietly an hour or two later. She was about 2 weeks away from her birthday, so close. I was looking forward to putting together her birthday 'cake'...

Rest well, old girl.

RIP Cubby.

aHello everyone, first time chicken owner and was wondering if Anyone know if roos are allowed in Howard County? I'm outside the city limits and I know I can have chickens just not sure if I can have a roo or not? I recently picked up some pullets and I believe at least one might be a roo.

@ellymayRans are your BCMs giving any pure eggs yet! ;)

Lol! Today is the first day all of them layed! I'm excited about that! I pulled all of my non Marans Roos however there is a blue Marans and golden cuckoo in addition to 3 Black Copper. So no. I just pulled those Roos on Sunday. I'm way behind what I hoped for a spring program! My goal is to have the pens built in 2 weeks!!! High hopes I know. I thought about copping them in my smaller coop but I worry too much change twice then they'll stop laying too long!?! I don't know! I just know all of a sudden I have quite a list of people that want some and I'm just not ready for it! My dear friends here will know first when they are! Promise! Hope you all don't give up on me! Lol!

Does anyone know how I would go about finding a house to rent where they will allow me to keep my 5 hens? My husband is relocating to greenfield, Indiana so we would want to be somewhere between there and rushville.

Welcome!

If you search for our moderators on this thread and look in their signatures, you will find a member list. From there you might be able to find someone in Howard County with chickens, already. Sorry I do not know where that is, but I welcome you!

(I always search for @Mother2Hens to find the link)

When we first got our chickens via USPS, the shipment included several 'packing peanuts'. One survived, and her name is Peanut. She's a bantam black orpington. Beautiful girl. Her feathers are so black they have a green/blue sheen in the light, and her eggs are my favorite. They are a shiny cream color and the perfect size for an egg sandwich. She's the only bantam in a flock of 8 LF, and she was the bossiest when all the chickens were pullets. She went broody 2 winters ago and we did didn't force her out of it. We waited and let nature take it's course. That year, she only laid about 10 eggs all year. She went broody again last February, and we gave her eggs to hatch. Since that hatch, she's been as sweet as pie, and a laying machine. She's much nicer and pleasant to be around in general. ANYWAY--that was a long background to get to this point... She's broody AGAIN and I'd like her to get back to laying ASAP. If anybody has eggs they need to hatch, I'm offering her warm backside and mothering nature. We don't want to keep any of the chicks (or ducks or peafowl or whatever) she hatches. We just want her to get back to the business of laying eggs. If you have any eggs that you'd like to make into chicks, please PM me as quick as you can. We'll get some eggs 'cooking' under her.
I wish I was going to Indy as I had a Naked Neck seller resend eggs from a poor hatch and non NNs..I have 2 broody silkies but one is on eggs and the other can only fit 4 of the 8 LF eggs under her! Lol! So I snatched another silkie put her near the broody and made a nest with the eggs. Fingers crossed! I have the Emu eggs in my coolerbater I have 31 eggs stacked in an Brinsea Eco 20 and my FI styrofoam junk is empty because I refuse to use it for incubating! I had planned to build another coolerbator. I built one for my aunt so she could participate in the Easter HAL with me but I didn't get around to building myself another! Of course kicking myself now and I went ahead and candled my eggs in the brinsea figuring I would have at least 4 clear or blood ring but OF Course NOT!! Wouldn't you know! I will figure something out by tomorrow if my silkie chooses not to brood!????
