INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

So having a discussion else where about a member who lost all his chickens to a group of dogs.. He killed two dogs and mammed the other.. Although I respect that he protected his family I think that people who kill animals but refuse to treat humans the same are wrong.. The dogs belonged to his neighbor So I thought of a humain way to deal with non wild animal issues if an animal trespasses on your property or is a threat capture the animal so it's not a threat. Then kindly go capture the owner take the owner to the middle of no where preferably 300 or more miles away and tell them to keep their animals off your property then let them go... Now it's your choice if you wish to release the troublesome animal too

Hi, all. Hope everyone is having a good summer.

We have been up to our ears with life, as usual.

Today at the KY State Fair, hubby informed me we "need" buff laced polish hens. How funny is that? I'd asked him in the past when ordering, and he had no interest, but he was quite taken with them in person.

If anyone has hatching eggs, please PM me as I have had very little time for BYC lately. No rush. I have a broody silkie who is probably almost done brooding. Just would like to know how to ask for future reference! I've had broody hens all summer...I'm sure I will have another soon.

Hey jchny2000 - how are you doing?! Do you still have the NJ? Someone sent me a pm asking if I had any available and I had to let them know that I don't keep them anymore, even though they are a wonderful breed. I thought I might refer them to you?
Doing well! Oh no, sure don't. I downsized a lot earlier this season and decided against keeping them, although I did really like the breed. I have less chickens now than most of my other bird species actually. Am only keeping my EE/OEs, Lavender orps and Just started with dark cornish. I still have a mixed free range flock but thats just misc breeds that were rehomed here.

Thanks! @daskhan and @jchny2000

I will be sure to let you all know if he's someone or not. If not, if one of you want him, you can have him

I have roosters that I'm still trying to get rid of and I don't think I have room for one more.

Thanks, I do love barred rocks but am buried in roos right now also!

Hi, all. I know I haven't been terribly active here in the past months, but I thought I would stop by and let those of you who admired her through my pictures and stories that my beloved Frou-Frou left us today. I am beside myself with grief at the moment, so apologies for the lack of detail. I'm just without the words right now.
Pipd, I can't tell you how sorry I am. Your stories about the beautiful hen have made a lot of us fall in love with her, and my heart goes out to you.

Well I don't have very good news either.

Went to check on my Lavender Orp hens this morning and found one dead, just sick over it. She appears to have been egg bound, and with all this running around all week I didn't catch it. They had a hard molt and had not been laying. My other hen seems ok but am really watching her close now. Am introducing the pullet and black cockerel (both still very young) to the pen so she is not alone. Orp rooster is out of the pen until the molt is finished and laying resumes.
They have been the healthiest, most vigorous breed I have aside from my EEs, really blind sided by this loss. Guess it can happen in any breed, production or heritage.
It's so sad to find one gone unexpectedly, even more than when we know it's been ailing. I hate to hear of your loss.

Anyone here raise guineas?

I ask because a friend had one of her keets attacked by the neighbor dogs. So we are trying to figure out what to do about the injury. Do we treat it just like a chicken injury?

Here is the info I have: It has some meat taken out is a way to describe it. It's still alive this morning. So that's a good sign. Last night it was panting so I wasn't sure it would live. It may be broken, I haven't messed with her a whole lot because they are so scared all the time anyways. And she acts like she doesn't want to stand all the way up. It's all in one piece just missing some feathers and flesh. There are some puncture wounds on its body too on both sides and a little more meat missing on the underside the wing.

I have a picture also. Not sure to post it, I case there are some squeamish stomachs this morning ;)

pretty sure they are not pure leghorns for several reasons:

for white leghorns, both males and females should have yellow legs. The females when laying could have their legs fade to a whitish yellow.

They also should have only white feathers, I see some black in the one with yellow legs. That could mean you have some of the hybrid layers that are derived from leghorns.

Well I don't have very good news either.
