INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I'm going to throw this out there one more time, anyone interested in a jubilee orpington roo? I'm processing this weekend and he's on the list.
I need another bird like I need a swift kick in the face. If I recall your bird correctly, he was a beauty, but I have four crowing roosters (not including the Cornish crosses) in a suburban yard. I could hit quite a lot of houses just by flinging pebbles, so I'm sure not all of my neighbors are thrilled by my boys singing the songs of their ancestors at full blast around 6am. No-Crow collars aren't fool proof (and mine didn't even come with directions), so it's taking some time to properly calibrate them.

Was wanting to attend a processing workshop weekend with everyone, but our autistic son brought home a nasty bug which has pretty well landed us. Need to get about 7 Cornish crosses processed. They're sweet birds (one's crowing), and holy moly, they're like pro bowling balls when they're picked up. My goodness, they're the Schwarzeneggers of the poultry world: STURDY and MUSCLEBOUND. Any one of them is much heavier than every one of the other birds (including the yearling Royal Palm tom) excepting, of course, the broad-breasted turkey hens. Must admit to being a bit curious about just how big they could functionally get, how they act when they get bigger/older and if the insane muscles carry over into half-blooded offspring. Knowing a lazy roo can top out around 20lbs is different than actually seeing one in your yard, though I think neighbors are enough intimidated by Wun Wun and his perpetual mean mug/evil eye expression (and well over 2ft in height), not to mention the turkeys.

Also thinking I may have to add Vermithrax to the processing list. I don't like thinking that she's mean, but she does try to peck the new guy through the screen door and is typically the provoker (to my knowledge) when it comes to the fights. She might calm down some when he's put in the general populace, but she's the most likely to peck (and HARD) of any of the birds this year. Even if she doesn't necessarily mean anything by it, a number of family members have claimed she bit them, and I really don't like taking chances, even though I'm an utter sucker for her otherwise. She's also taken to seizing other birds by the neck if they eat from the bowl at the same time as her, and sometimes I have to break it up. Really unnerving because she never used to be food aggressive. Might be a moody lady thing that calms down as her hormones settle down a bit and flock hierarchy adjusts.

Speaking of processing day I went was there for about ten minutes or so while I picked up my new young buff orp roo from Sally Indiana at racins place I like his set up it was funny when racin or his helper couldn't really tell if the new guy was a guy or gal but as I was looking at him I cout a glimps of a very beautiful blue orp going into a calming cone then the process be gain... To say the least I can't really do that specially with preggo around I did get to walk around and see all his turkeys and a few of his chickens before they darted into there Judy holes but took the lol buff roo home compared to my gals there's no question he's a roo he's already taller at 6 months fatter legs too I'm happy with him the girls not really sure yet my one girl who was at the bottom of the chain when they were all housed together apperently is at the top now that I seperated the buffs and she's not wanting to give it up yet and the other hens are following her lead so time will tell what happens

Also does anyone want Saipan jungle fowl? I can get you two hens and a roo for 50$
Maybe can talk him down depending on where they have to be delivered to

I bought a new chicken today and it slipped past me out of the cage...45 minutes later, as I am crawling out of my neighbors large pine tree, he and his wife return home for lunch. The look on their faces where priceless...I could here him laughing before he even turned in the driveway...she was asking what it was. I said it's a chicken, she said ohhhh. She was terrified of it at first and tried to feed it bread. They spent their lunch break helping me try to wrangle her. I literally had to call in reinforcements from down the street...finally had enough hands to catch her. I'll be out of eggs for a month trying to repay everyone!!

Had a great visit with @ellymayRans today while I handed her the mille fleur D'Uccle roo. Just know he's going to be ecstatic to have some of his very own lady friends and a place where he's not the smallest thing in the yard. EllymayRans also expressed some interest in a male buff/splash Silkie I received from @chickrookie earlier this summer (because hers is a jerk, and this little guy is super sweet and the color she's looking for). I really love Silkies, but something in the area has been picking them off the past few weeks, and I think he might be safer with her since--whatever this predator is--has a marked taste for my Silkies (has never take off with anything else).

Have you thought about how you plan to sex the chicks?  I'd be interested in knowing more about where to hire a person to sex chicks.  This years high rooster turnout for me has been more than an annoyance.

May be strange but I've considered looking into the profession!! ;) Far from my current engineering profession! Lol!

I didn't realize you were someone else from on here! That was me processing some extra birds with Racinchickens. Should have introduced yourself! You saw me processing my extra Lavender Orp roo. I got 8 chicks from Jchny2000 late winter, had awesome luck to start with. 3 boys and 5 girls out of the bunch. Then lost one pullet to an accident (she got a foot caught in the fench/gate) and lost another pullet that just didn't thrive. Of the 3 boys, one got taken by a raccoon, I'm keeping the nicest, and you saw the last one. The LO are quickly becoming one of my favorites. I'm going to begin transitioning my entire layer flock to LO.

I guess I just needed some other chickens to compare yours too. I didn't see roo when I looked at him. I'm sure he'll be happy with his ladies at your place.

Racinchickens has it all figured out when it comes to processing birds! My first time using the "auto plucker" (not sure what its offical name is) was sweet!! Entire process went really smoothly, thanks again for allowing me to use your equipment!

My current way in general is just wait and see but by about a week I know but most of mine have been early bloomers the roo I got from you doesn't seem to be the same his comb and wattles are way smaller then the Roos I just sold who were the same age but they were mixed breeds for pure breeds I might just sell them as straight runs but I was thinking I could do some sex links I hear rir over buff orps make good mixes besides that was about a two hour drive it would have to be near 40-50$ for me to go that far if your serious I could get some training I know some people and could make deals like in the order of like ten dollars plus a trade of chicks for survices rendered
