INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Well, something interesting happened in the night that I haven't been able to detective out as yet. The two Dark Brahma roos and the RP tom turkey are bloodied up about their faces this morning. damage severity is in order Wun Wun (biggest DB)<Mag the Mighty (smaller DB) < Puff the Magic (tom). Wun Wun has very little damage--just a couple spots of dried blood on his neck and comb. Mag has far more blood on his hackles and comb/face--not badly off by any means, but definitely has a lot more than Wun Wun does. Puff has lines of blood all over one side of his neck (his right side especially) and some on his face. None are impaired, just a bit bloodied up.

They're all acting fine with each other--no fighting or anything this morning--and have always been pretty civil with each other before. They were all locked in the coop last night and released this morning, so unless a predator got into the coop through the open vent in the top, it wasn't likely to be an opossum or mouse that bled all over them (plus, the three of them haven't shown any great interest in terrorizing neighborhood cats that get into the yard, so I doubt they would truly tangle with an opossum.

Puff's getting closer to me every day, which is really cool. He loves bread and meat scraps the most, but also likes some fruit/veggies and mealworms. Has not done his manly duties yet, and that's driving us all crazy here.

Afternoon all,

Fellow Hoosier here. New to chickens as of September, and BYC. Good information and folks around here.

Just wanted to say hello.

Welcome! :)

Your chickens are starting a gang and beating up someone? Was that the initiation? I'd say look around the coop for feathers that don't belong or fur chicken attacking chicken normally has a certain sign and that's feathers pulled out blood down the face and neck seems like they were protecting each other against something with claws

I hope today gets better but yesterday was a fun day
Picked up more supplies from rural king went but this familiar ladies house and got a beautiful and friendly polish rooster and would you know it she had a silkie chick and an we chick that are just adorable so they went home with me too(shh it was the plan the whole time) cleaned my giant brooders switch the chicks around and done some magic (made 19 look like 20 lol)
Woke up this morning and number 20 figured out how to get out of the netting and was sitting on too of it with my gaurd chicken neo the silkie roo... The silkie chick missed his siblings so in he went I'm pretty sure if the chicks come from the same place it's safe enough to assume they don't need to be seperated I mean it's been what a week or so..... Her I mean her siblings lol
Glad your happy with the birds, The chicks should be fine together, at least I would think so.

Almost wonder if its not some type of rodent doing the biting.

Since we were discussing NN/Turkens, got a couple pics today. He and the black Sumatra roo are discussing who is more handsome lol!

My girls (I startled the barred hen, she jumped to the yucky poop board)

@Indyshent your roo moved in with the NNs!

This brown hen produces 100% NN chicks. Its crazy how red her face is, I would have though roo if i didn't collect her eggs everyday!

Lol, they're cute!

Aside from daily stuff, hows winterizing going for everyone? I have my piglets on heat, since they are so young. Still have my maran babies inside, they are going out during the day only. Have a couple last hatches on duck eggs. All thats left after that is quail and I will hatch them all winter.
