Stink bugs go all around the doors of the house and wait. Then when someone opens the door, they make a break for it and they're in!

My husband captures them in a jar, then takes the jar out to the chickens and dumps it on the ground and it's a "free-for-all".

But they hide inside the house and lay eggs if you don't find them all. Then hatches all winter long!

Once one of them decides to eat it, it's a contest to see who can get them first. Husband actually froze some last year...caught them and put them in the small canning jar and put it in the freezer, He added to it every time he caught them in the house.

Then in the middle of winter, took them out for the birds to eat when there weren't other bugs around. It was a Thanksgiving feast!

I am with out a tom in my Midgets, Gonzo found the stupid burning bush and my assumption is he dined on berries on that nasty bush. He went from vibrant and healthy in the morning to shivering, sweating and died in the middle of the night. I was just devastated. Its the only explaination I can find for the sudden illness and death. He was a very sweet tom, and my favorite heritage tom by far. After my hysterics and loss of my beautiful tom, they are removed.. too late. I am on a rampage again about poisonous plants and bushes on our land, and taking it on myself, hoping I don't tear up the tractor removing them! DH saw me ramming the bushes and used the box blade to take them out. Too late for my Gonzo. I have got so cautious about plants here if I can't identify it, it goes, period. Several stumps I have hand sawed the japanese yew off! They are all getting replaced with safe berry bushes. RIP my Gonzo, you were awesome my buddy.

I'm so sorry to hear about Gonzo. Don't know if I have poisonous plants or not; if so, they're wild plants at the edge of the woods.

so i have a few maybe odd questions down south i lived in a big city but we had alot of the same criters but for instance i never heard it called an opossum only possum.. is there a difference and question two is if i was to hatch or buy turkey "chicks" ( are they still chicks as turkeys?) after they get to a "good size" do i still need to "pen" them up or can they roam around the yard and nearby woods? do they come home? also i cant post any update photos of the brooders anymore my phone finally decided it was retiring screen stopped working ugh...and that was were all my photos and posting came from right now im at the local library.

My turkeys free range; they can go inside but seldom do. The girls like the tops of the pens and the guy likes the picnic table on my deck--yuck!

Anybody else being hit with the Asian Lady Beetles this week?

%#@*! I'm vacuuming them off my ceiling a couple of times a day and bombarded whenever I go into the front yard. Not bad in the back where it's wooded; they seem to like the sunshine.

So a lot going on in my life lately!! Sigh! Besides the ongoing rescue and care of the Peas..

Just a few days after the rescue my DH was in a bad car accident. Someone ran a stop sign crossing St Rd 44. Wonderful news is the side air bags, etc saved him, walking away with only lots of bruising. Unfortunately my beautiful vehicle was totaled. Now more than a week later I'm still waiting to get a call back from their insurance company!

Fortunately I am driving my aunts spare truck so I'm not completely high and dry!

Thank goodness it was the car that was totaled--it's replaceable!

We're not having an Asian beetle problem as much as we do a stink bug problem. Not the native green ones, but the invasive brown ones. They come into the house like they own the place.
We have one puppy that eats them...then he's sorry for a few seconds...then he goes right about his business. To me, they smell like very strong cilantro when they excrete their stink.

They tend to come inside here as it gets cooler. Like the idea Leah's Mom posted of Thanksgiving treats!

Great ideal if I ever get any in the house I will do that.

I cant help ya out, I don't know the area but I'm sure someone here will. We have a very helpful group here. There are some that sell birds of all kinds right here, but that normally means driving someplace to get them. I am sold out of everything for the season right now and most are trying to get rid of extra roo's. but when the others see ya they might tell ya what they got if your interested. Or to stay close at home you try your area Craig's List. Or Hoosier's topics even.
It might help us out if you tell us what you are looking for.

Hiya! We're practically neighbors. I don't know of anyone doing any hatching this time of year. I'm hoping some of mine will hatch chicks come springtime. But there's always TSC in the early spring too. Craigslist is where you can find chicks in the spring also. And of course on the BYC buy and sell area. Many folks just order from hatcheries too. But again, supply is very limited right now. Hopefully someone here will help you out.

many rural king stores here in Indiana still have chicks. ...it's a more limited selection than in the spring, but may be a start. Also, what breed (s) are you looking for? Do you want day old or started/coop ready birds (6 weeks or more)? There are still folks hatching, there are those who prefer to start chick in the winter, will just depend on what you want
