INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Apparently, crows are one of the best deterrents to owls. Maybe we could bait crows to live in the vicinity...

I've heard wind chimes, netting, tinsel and all kinds of other stuff work too.
I enjoy watching them. Crows are really a good hawk deterrent also.

Awoken again to commotion on the deck. Another sad morning only this morning the Owl finally got its Pea! My mommas girl. Mommas boy must have been hit pretty hard during it all as they sleep nestled together, his mouth was/is full of blood and he was struggling to breathe. I held him and looked him over but couldn't find any external wounds. When i woke i saw something going on but couldn't see exactly. ..no signs of the girl anywhere. Just a few feathers floating around the deck.

I will be hand placing them up for the night tonight. I will not lose my Peas to the Owl!!
Wow that really bites, so sorry for your loss.

Almost 4 yo Charlie had 3 eggs this week.... first eggs I've seen since October!

Pretty

Moms surgery went "picture perfect" according to the team doing the procedure. She has the new heart valve in place, was alert and talking. Dads exhausted and relieved she is recovering. Everything went so quickly, I never had time to read or post a thing, LOL!
Thats wonderful!! So glad to it.

We don't get allot of crows, I guess maybe I should start hanging wind chimes out in my chicken lots... lost allot to Falcon and Hawks this year.

Haven't lost any of my sick birds so far been well over a week, but they aren't getting any better either. Don't know how most are still alive due to their not eating anything. Poor Bubbles was the last to come down with whatever this is and she is by far the worst. I have switched meds on vets orders. He is just guessing cause I cant really afford to take her in for test.
I have to take one of my dogs in today, she has a sore that is not healing.
Have a baby goat, little spotted boar doe, in the house for the winter.

Quote: I have one here terrorizing also. Flat huge bird. The donkey, Daisy does not like it and charges as soon as she sees it! We are setting up everything in the pasture area, and all my birds will be confined within the pasture once we are done. The owl thats attacking leaves all but the birds head! Just such a horrible waste of life. Its wiped out any ducklings I had, and all but a few of my CX that were free ranged. Its also taken several free range roosters. Its federally protected so we cannot remove it.

These seem to work well. Not perfect or as good as a net but better than nothing. It takes four up high to keep away night time birds (owls) or it takes 4 down low to keep away ground predators. I have four hung up very high. We did not have a problem with ground predators.

Thanks @sallyinindiana. My DH just bought me 2 LED solar powered Motion detecter lights. That was Sunday. Just wish I would have put them up already!
Chilly overcast days I didn't think they'd be able to charge.

These aren't like what you posted. I wonder if they will even work on the Owl issue????

I found my girl on the roadside behind our place. She was just missing her entire neck and head. So sad.

Just thought this was too cute not to share!

Sorry to everyone having predator problems... We lost 5 to a fox in the spring but have done pretty good since then... knock on wood! Now if I could just keep the mice out of the house

Mine have flashed every night since we put them up. It must not take a lot to charge them. We put them up in an afternoon and they were flashing that first night.

I have a goat that is limping. I can't see or feel anything wrong with her leg though. She is due to kid anytime between now and the new year. I'm hoping the limp will be gone before the kid(s) come.
