INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I don't know any good way to get lavender eggs : it's a fluke of the universe.

Your rooster can't be double barred if one of his parents was solid. He looks single barred because he's roughly half-white.

Brown + blue = green. You can't place bets on birds after that. Blue is "dominant" to white because any of the metabolic product in the shell turns it some variety of blue. A double dose will turn them more vivid blue than single dose, but like with brown, the hen will run heavy or low on that product throughout the laying cycle, so that may change hue too), brown is just a coating (dependent on a different metabolic product, though both I believe are tied to the liver) top of white.

Anyone know of somewhere near Northern Indiana I can get Indian Runner ducklings, or one ofsimilar size?

I recently received an order from Ideal and one of the ducklings didn’t make it. hoping to find a companion for the remaining duckling.

Thanks!

Even though one of his parents is a solid color, I thought he may be double barred because he has a lot more white in his feathers that can't be seen in the photo. It's the lower half of the feather that's white on his back, saddle, rump and legs, and underside.

Those Border collies are so cute!

Are Border Collies good with poultry? I remember when looking for a dog we read that they were very, very intelligent but can get into a lot of trouble if bored. Back then, we were looking for an easy to train, family-friendly dog. We found 2 dumb, but obedient mutts. (Lab x Great Dane and a Boxer x pitbull x mastiff(?) They are wonderful but 11 and 10 years old. The 11 yr old lab/dane is barely walking and the 10 yr old has had cancer for the past 2 years. We're in the end days, so for now my focus is keeping them comfortable. In the not so distant future, we'll have to begin a new dog search. I still will want an easy to train, low maintenance, kid friendly, large breed - but now also want one without a strong prey drive. Any breed suggestions?
I can't say enough good about Rough Collies, if you're asking for breed suggestions. Sure, their coat requires some maintenance. But they have all your other requirements in the bag! Love love LOVE my collie!

Now, I did pick a "breeder" that didn't have show dogs, because I didn't want to deal with a coat that was over the top. And that kind of breeder is harder to vet. Could be an irresponsible one. But I think I got lucky with mine.

And I do take her to the groomer every six weeks for a full groom. Mine charges $45, so lucky there too. I never have to brush her at home in between unless it's shedding season. She is SO smart and conscientious, she is worth every bit.

That's the breed I had while growing up! Your collie looks beautiful.

Ours was a tri-colored and she was great. I was the one who had to brush her & I remember filling up a couple grocery store paper bags with fur. It could come out in big clumps. When I fell behind, my parents would have her shaved. She looked strange but it was cooler for the summer & no maintenance.

Silkies are definitely the hardest breed for me to sex. I have some 6.5 wk olds. Anyone who wants to give an opinion on gender, please feel free.

A = has the widest comb & slowest growing crest. My gut has always said male because it's "different" than the rest. It's a bit smaller and has a higher pitched peeping.

B= I simply can't tell. No obvious signs either way. I'm hoping for female.

C = This one has a touch of color on the comb, but it's pretty flat & not very wide. I'm guessing male b/cof the color. It didn't want its photo taken.

D = No real gender signs here either, so my guess can vary daily.

E = DD's fav. My gut says female, but it could also be wishful thinking. This is the one we're going to keep.

Size diff is huge. The little OEG is smaller than the seramas. Both LOVE to cuddle!

Seramas: I think the silkied serama is our only male.

We kept one Orpington to see how she'd look feathered out. She's one of our sweetest birds & now the big protector of this group. She doesn't seem to realize that she's so much bigger.

We also kept a blue & a Dom from an earlier hatch. They're 10 weeks old. Still hoping the Dom is female.

@pipdzipdnreadytogo
So how are those silkied cochins doing?
:pop

We had one late quitter as of candling the night before last, so down to 4 now. I left it in just in case, but it had an area undeveloped with some choppy vein-looking stuff, so I'm pretty sure it's no go. :( Otherwise, one of the four remaining rotated itself a bit yesterday and was wiggling away. No movement today, but I *think* I'm hearing faint peeping in there (it's hard to tell for sure over the fan). Trying to sit on my hands and let them do their thing because it's only day 20. :fl
