I can't say enough good about Rough Collies, if you're asking for breed suggestions. Sure, their coat requires some maintenance. But they have all your other requirements in the bag! Love love LOVE my collie!

Now, I did pick a "breeder" that didn't have show dogs, because I didn't want to deal with a coat that was over the top. And that kind of breeder is harder to vet. Could be an irresponsible one. But I think I got lucky with mine.
And I do take her to the groomer every six weeks for a full groom. Mine charges $45, so lucky there too. I never have to brush her at home in between unless it's shedding season. She is SO smart and conscientious, she is worth every bit.
