INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Hello All:

Due to the HUGE increased on flock feed in the stores I would like to find another way to get my flock feed. Where do you all purchase your feed? I went to a mill store that had great reviews and after a long drive the prices were very expensive and didn't have much inventory.. I live in Indianapolis but I don't mind driving some if is worth it.

Thanks
We get ours from Kern Kirtley and Herr Co. They're in Lebanon.

I purchase mine at a local feed mill. What's the increase amount?

I always forget where I post things.

Just last week I picked up 2 runner ducks.
But, Sunday I lost one already.

Here's what I posted in another thread here on BYC:

Just yesterday I let 2 new runner ducks out into the open yard. First they followed my muscovies to the flower garden and then to corn field. My yard is surrounded by corn and bean fields. I noticed they went to the corn fiels, but didn't follow the muscovy back across the yard. I went to herd them back over, but being runners, new to my home, and always wanting to go the opposite direction of me - they headed straight into the corn field. It is at least 9' tall. I tried to get them out, but they just kept going further in, so I stopped hoping they would come back out.
I continued with my chores and about 40 min later one popped out. The other did not. ☹
I got her back in the run along with the rest of my flock. I looked for the missing duck going down rows and squatting to see if I could at least see her little orange feet. I didn't see her. My husband got out his drone and flew over to see if there were any areas where she could be. He spotted a few bare spots with just weeds.
It was getting later, so I ventured deep into the corn to the first batch of weeds. I didn't see much, but then I squatted and down one of the rows was a big tuft of feathers. 😢
We have had a fox around and I don't know it that's what got her. But, months ago I lost one to a fox in the backyard when I didn't get out soon enough to lock them up.
I've seen the fox on the camera at night, but never during the day.
I couldn't sleep I felt so guilty. I just picked her up last Monday. Today would have been the first week.
Plus, her sister is a runner, all of my other ducks are muscovy. She looks very lost without her pal.

I will add that last night I went to pick her up 2 new pals and they won't get let out into the yard until fall when the crops are harvested and I can totally see them.
Also, even though I should have quarantined, she was smitten as soon as she saw them. They are like 1 group now. I'm not sure runners are my favorite duck, but they sure are quirky.

I usually get mine from TSC or Rural king and it has gone up to $4 more
Yeah, I’ve noticed the huge increase lately. It had already started going up last year when they reformulated and changed the bags. (Dumor) Since they don’t offer the 15% crumbles that I used to buy, I’ve been looking around for a different source of feed. @Crazy Maizie , what town are you in that you have a good local feed mill?

@Isadora T I clicked on your link and am waiting for it to load. I am only 30 minutes from Lebanon, and I have been driving there to buy 15 bags at a time from TSC, because they had Producer’s Pride layer crumbles for only $10.49 per 40lb bag. But I see now that it has gone up to $11.99!!

Ours has gone up too even from the local feed store. We just compared receipts and it is about $4 more.
We are in the NE so I go to a local amish feed mill. We have plenty to choose from just in this county.

Oh, that is nice that you have those options. 😊 I will keep looking. In the meantime, I need to get serious about selling my spare birds. I usually hatch and buy lots of chicks, raise them up, and then sell the ones I don’t want to keep. It will be a hard decision this year because I really like so many of them!

I hope you find something that will work for you!
